I live in Las Vegas and I ambmoving back home to Southern Cal. in 3 weeks. I will be in the Riverside/San Bernardino area.

Not sure if this is a private or corporate owned Astar, but if you need a ferry pilot or need a part time pilot in Ca, let me know.

6,000 TT - Helicopter PIC - NVG - 135 pilot - CFI - Instrument.

Been flying twins the past two years, BK117 / BH222 but I have 2,000hrs in the Astar and 1,000 in the EC130.

Darn, I'll be in the middle of the Robinson course during that time. Just out of curiosity, do you have any minimum requirements of your volunteer?

Rated pilots only looking to build time, we do this to help out guys get turbine time that is very costly and near impossible to get,try and rent a Astar dual for a 6 hour Xcountry flight for $250.00 a hour....

Now I wouldn't go that far. If someone went to "rent a Astar dual" they would get much more valuable real world experience for their buck. I'm not familiar with your program, but I highly doubt you will be sitting down the student for several hours of ground instruction in turbines and systems.

These aircraft need to be moved regardless of whether you rustle up a co-pilot. I completely agree that you have a right to charge someone for this flight time, but don't pretend like you are doing these people a huge favor.

And for everyone contemplating these flights, I would hope you understand what you are paying for. I have assisted lots of students in their job hunt, and I never recommend they include "3.4 hours of 206 time" or "10.6 hours of turbine time". Someone please correct me if you had a different experience, but I have never seen a time where it makes a difference. Frankly, it comes off as desperate, because employers know where that flight time usually comes from, and it's worth (not much).

NOW, that being said, if you want to pay $250/hr for a scenic flight over beautiful countryside then you should definitely jump at this opportunity. It's basically a very expensive tour flight where you can log a little bit of stick time.

Just don't waste your money if you think this is going to suddenly make you qualify for a turbine job. There are better places to spend money to make you more marketable, for instance, keeping currency, getting more night time(you will need 100 hours for EMS), or using it to visit operators around the country.

I did have one employer ask me during a phone interview for an R44 job, if I had any turbine time, because he wanted to "eventually" get someone into their 206. However, that was just once, and about four years ago. :(

I have since acquired about 10hrs turbine, and must say that it hasn't opened any doors for me. <_<

On the lighter side though, I have always wanted to fly an Astar, and $250/hr. is a very good price (considering what I would normaly pay for anything larger than an R22), so I would do it, if I could. :)

AS for Egg beaters comments your just another thread highjacker. These flights have nothing to do with you, I'm helping get guys some great flying in a turbine helicopter something I guarantee you cannot provide! so keep your false comments to yourself such as,

" It's basically a very expensive tour flight where you can log a little bit of stick time. "

Lets see the last time I flew with Mavrick they charged me $475 to go from Vegas to the canyon and I wasnt alowed to touch anything, under a hour flight time. And it was worth every penny...

Anyone who has taken one of these flights will tell you, you fly the whole flight and got a hell of a deal, and had a great time, we do charge its not free but you cant go and fly a hour turbine time for $300 unless you know the owner or ? so its a very very good deal and I know most guys as by the comments agree.

Jettset99:

I vote with Palmfish, that this thread be moved to the proper catagory: Ferry Flights or Training.

Additionally, this is a business venture or a training venture and should NOT be in the General Threads.

I apprieciate your passion and willing to offer a seat in a moving helicopter but, shouldn't we be teaching by example to follow the rules?

They all end up together on the Home Page, so what's the big deal? <_<

I will leave decision about whether my reply hijacked your thread up to Lyn or one of the mods.

Plenty of people on here get very irritated when individuals like yourself charge others for ferry flights. However, I disagree with them. I feel like you can charge whatever you want and if someone wants to pay that, then no big deal.

What I take issue with is your response that you are "helping guys out" and then comparing the ferry flights with "renting an Astar dual". Lets be honest here, if you had a burning desire to help new people build experience, you would not be charging $250/hr to tag along a flight you have to do anyway. You sell these flights to make some money and I don't have a problem with that.

But when you post these ads, you don't seem to be targeting experienced pilots. You seem to want to sell this time to people who don't already have turbine time, and might be hoping this will qualify them for a turbine job somewhere.

If I were a new person to this industry, I would hope that someone would tell me this information before I shelled out thousands of dollars. Especially if I thought that spending this money would magically help me get a job.

Someone please chime in if I am off target here. If this type of flying helped you get a job, I'm always open to changing my opinion. :D

Eggbeater you are full of yourself first off I never said that this will help anyone get a job another LIE by you! you are the only one here trying to mislead pilots!! nobody is trying to rip anyone off these flights sell out in a day or 2 because it is a awesome deal and you and a couple other HATERS just want to not let someone have the opportunity to fly a MILLION dollar ship with insurance and a high time CFI rated pilot to fly with that can give instruction on turbine operations for the price of renting a R22 dual, look we always get someone saying to give the flight for free, or its has to moved anyway so why charge/ but the truth is all the guys saying this DONT own a 206L or a AS350 let alone 10! and I bet my last dollar they couldn't afford 1 years insurance for them, but yet they come on my thread and post crap, and if by the grace of God they did ever own one would never give a complete stranger the controls and let fly it for 6 plus hours for FREE. If you want to make me look bad go out buy a ASTAR put insurance on it fill it up with Jet A and put a post for "FREE TURBINE FLIGHT TIME" But we both know this will never ever happen :)

I find that JETSET99 is providing a great opportunity for someone who's got some basic knowledge about helicopter flying to now move on to more advanced areas like turbine engines and power management in higher altitudes and high temperatures. The states Utah and Nevada especially at this time of the year provide exactly that and the Astar is the perfect helicopter for this kind of environment.

Also the Astar is relatively hard to control in an IGE hover for someone who has never experienced it but on a long xc flight you'll do plenty of hovering around on airports when you stop for fuel.

I agree a few hours of turbine time on your resume might not get you a job but when you get an interview and you've experienced a few start ups prior and you pick the Astar up into a hover and show your new employer how you handle the machine - that might just put you that one step ahead of everyone else!

Don't forget that many companies require a certain amount of time in make and model for insurance purposes and the forest service also wants 50 in type.

So even though you might not be able to fly the thing right away or get a job, after you DO get a job and are done with your, for example, 10hr checkout.... you are now 6 hours ahead already (or more if you keep doing this)

BTW: I've benn flying for many years and when I started there were none of these options available, let alone free time. I probably would have paid for the time to get started and for the oportunity to pick an experienced pilots brain in person.

(especially as compared to some of the "advice" you get here in the forums from strangers)
