Recommended Posts

Hello, everyone just want to introduce myself...Im Dustin, just started flying with Helicopter Academy a few months back and recently started working for Boatpix, THE BEST JOB EVER. I have been a member prior; known as Next_12, but since working for Boatpix have changed my name...I have meet a lot of great people from this site...first and foremost Michael Crane...and a few others of whom have giving me such great advice on books, study methods...etc. A little background from me; I own a motorcycle race shop and have been riding/racing my whole life and have evolved into my new love and very addictive passion...HELICOPTERS, of which I believe most of you have incurred. I sold everything I own including some of my babies (motorcycles)to fly and so here I am...if interested please join my fan page. Thanks for your time and look forward to speaking and reading all of your adventures that you have, on my fan page you will see some of mine of which I am VERY proud of.

Awesome man I'm glad working for BOATPIX is working out for you. Couldn't you have posted this in one of the various other BOATPIX threads though?

Actually this post is real...Tom has been a great boss and help me and every Boatpix pilot I have meet a lot...This company send his students to multiple events and has us travel around state to state...doing action low level photography of which I personally consider a dream job...Don't understand all the negative please check out link under my name...i's not propaganda...just trying to get all the negativity that I have been reading about Boatpix to change because you guys have all the wrong impressions!!! Seriously don't get it...Helicopter Academy is a great school...and you get a job with Boatpix and I and ALL of the pilots I have meet love it too!!! THIS IS DREAM WORK FOR A LOT OF PEOPLE...IF I HAD GONE TO SCHOOL ANYWHERE ELSE AND ASK MY WHAT I WANTED TO DO CAREER WISE...I WOULD HAVE STILL CHOSEN BOATPIX....I MEAN I HAVE TRAVELED TO (5) STATES....TOOK PICTURES OF OFF-SHORE RACING BOATS IN LAKE CUMBERLAND, SAIL BOATING EVENTS IN OH, TRAVELED TO PENNSYLVANIA, AND THEN FLY ALL THE WAY DOWN TO ALABAMA FOR THE "SNAG PROOF" TOURNAMENT AND THIS HAS BEEN IN THE PAST MONTH AND A HALF....What more could you ask for...if we ever have problems, Tom fixing them immediately and makes sure everyone of pilots is taking care of ten fold....I created the page under my name to show the public what high quality pics we produce and to let people know Boatpix is real and is in no way a fake company. I would consider the best out there and so will everyone of his pilots, I have meet around (7) and we ALL have the same appreciation!!!

One major issue I see Dustin, is that when you move on from that place, you will still have BOATPIX in your username on here. You might not want that following you around ;)

I don't plan on leaving ANYTIME soon, I want to stay with this company for a LONG time, I love traveling...I LOVE DOING BOATPIX and ALL of the events...I have meet so many great people and doing aerial shots of boating events is pretty much a dream job for me and a lot of people. I want to help this company grow and I refer everyone I meet that's interested in flying to the Helicopter Academy/Boatpix...Can someone please let me understand why all the negativity. What do you guys consider dream jobs and what type of flying are you guys/gals doing??? Please enlighten me...;)

Yes, taking pictures of boats (especially while they're moving) is a lot of fun.

I am just an occasional renter, and personally, I don't really have a "dream job".

I think most of the negativity towards Boatpix on this site comes from how they market themselves here? Selling a job is nothing new, that's pretty much what all flight schools do, and in a grossely overcrowded industry actually "paying" to "pay your dues", like buying an extra 100hrs in type, or paying to ferry an aircraft, is just the way it is! I guess some people here just have issues with that?

:)

Maybe if BoatPix didn't run such a low-ball operation with the intentions of giving students a piss-poor deal to rob them of their money, they might have a more well respected business.

Please explain; piss-poor deal? REALLY it's the ONLY company that gives students... not only a job...but a DREAM JOB, and a advance level of flying, you state "rob" them of there money??? Tom takes care of ALL his students lets them travel and gives them a job...fly with some other company and see how soon you get a job...and "what" type of job may that be...not trying to be rude...but all this negativity I see is completely uncalled for...he has great intentions for all his students and Tom is a business man and even offers financial aid for the people who can't afford the whole program...HAVEN'T SEEN THAT WITH ANY OTHER SCHOOL, AND TRUST ME I COULD OF TRAINED WITH ANY COMPANY I CHOOSE...I CHOOSE HELICOPTER ACADEMY AND BOATPIX!!! SO I TAKE A LOT OF THE NEGATIVITY PERSONALLY BUT ONLY WIT A GRAIN OF SALT!!!

Hmm...thanks for the advice...but I will be able to fly for any company I want...HONESTLY, BOATPIX is so much fun...you fly to Off-shore racing events, Sail-Boat events, Yachting events, Fishing Tournaments...and getting paid to travel and meet some of the greatest people I have ever meet...what I mean by this; is ALL boaters love it...and so do I!!! It's the best feeling to me...to wave at boaters and have them wave back doing maneuvers, to capture that moment for them and it gives me such gratitude to full-fill there aerial shots...It means alot to these boaters and makes me proud to produce the pictures for them...I have VERY VERY high standards and can work anywhere I want...I have been a "racer" my whole life...cars, dirtbikes, atv's, jetski's and motorcycles...and have gotten too old to continue my lifestyle...fly straight and level is boring to me...so like I said, how is Boatpix aerial photography not gratifying to you...what type of job do you do??? Just saying...it PASSION to me and I give 110% all the time...actually during all the events I've done...I can't even sleep, I like a kid during x-mas night...and lose sleep because I am so excited to go do my job...that's PRICELESS to me!!! So my "GOALS" are set very high and I'm very proud of what I do!!!

Most successful civilian trained pilots start their careers by attending a flight school and subsequently graduating as a CFI. From there, they hire on as a CFI and build time by teaching. Once hired, the CFI is proportionally compensated for the service rendered. While there are other ways to build time, such as Ag flying, this is the most common method within the industry and the most legit.

Beyond that, any helicopter business where a commercially rated pilot is required to pay a fee to build time while performing the duties as PIC, while the company profits from the revenue generated, is completely bogus, and a disservice to the industry. Ferry flights included…

NO PILOT SHOULD EVER NEED TO PAY FOR PIC FLIGHT TIME IF THAT FLIGHT TIME IS GENERATING REVENUE FROM AN ADDITIONAL REVENUE SOURCE…. This is called “double dipping” and a rip off to prospective naive pilots who want to build time, and unfortunately cruel, as no other industry would put up with such malarkey....

It's all good until the boaters are sent pics and pestered to pay for them even though they have no interest in them. It has happened plenty of times and I personally know people who have been charged for pictures they didn't want and have had major issues with Boatprix.

The way Tom markets himself and his company is what people usually have an issue with. Once you get a real job, you may see it a little better.

I have VERY VERY high standards and can work anywhere I want

You can?? Well good for you.

is this just another stupid Boatpix propaganda or just a joke?

Its so ridiculous, obvious and fake, that its hard to take it seriously.

if this is the level of professionalism in the company, then good night and good luck

Tom asks his instructors and students to make posts like that to drum up business. Obviously it is working for him.

Thanks for all the feedback but I do love my job and Tom has doing nothing but help me and other students...every event I have done the boaters were ABSOLUTELY excited about us being there and excited about purchasing our pictures, especially the Off-shore racing event were probably a 1/6 had women showing us HMM the goods...lol and the Snag Proof tournament we did last weekend every boater was completely interested in were to purchase the pics...of which I advertised Boatpix.com at every hotel, restaurant and fish and tackle place...These people pay thousands and sometimes even millions for there boats of which there were in competition...and the action of what they are doing is what we do "capture" that moment for them...I understand flying is VERY expensive but as I said earlier...I LOVE MY JOB!!!

Congrats on finding a company you like, doing what you like. I never understood the hate for Boatpix... well I understood, it but never let it bother me. After all, Boatpix is not the only place that practices the ol' 'double dip'. And hey, this is America - land of the capitalists... if you don't like the way a business is run, then don't give the business your business.

I enjoy the humor (fixed floats or bust!), but I will never understand people putting down someone because that someone is happy with what they are doing, just because they work at a company someone hates.

Sounds like you're really drinking the koolaid on this one man. Doesn't he only hire you for the same amount of hours that you paid for or something?

I agree with most everyone on here, I cannot stand the way boatpix advertises. Even if I couldn't find anything, anywhere I would not go to boatpix just because of the way they market themselves.

I would like to note that from what I've seen, most people get hired in a somewhat timely manner by their flight school after they finish up. I don't want a guaranteed job for 100 hours or whatever it is, I want to show whoever it is that I want it more than the next guy, and I will guarantee myself a job for the next 1000 hours.

Hi fellow aviators

There are a lot of rip-offs in aviation and some student pilots pay a lot for great schemes wich mostly profit only the owner. Boatpix is no difference to these. Classic aviation snowball system. If its your only chance to get a job, quit flying and do something else. Propably its better for all of us, because if nobody wants to employ you then maybe it was not ment to be... This pay2fly schemes fukk up the whole industry. Same sh*t in the airlines. Only rich kids, retired and retarded with no sorrows about money will finally be flying around and call them selves PILOT IN COMMAND. What a joke! I would never ever employ, work together or even drink a beer with somebody who gained his experience by one of these ponzi schemes...
