Long-time lurker as well, and really excited to have been selected!

Selected May 2015

Age: 29

GT/AFQT: 146/99

SIFT: 80

APFT: 267

Education: B.S. in Criminal Justice, 3.22 GPA

Waivers: N/A

LoRs: CO/BC and from a CW5 who was the CCWO for my division's CAB.

Civilian Background: 4 years in law enforcement (2 part-time, 2 certified full-time)

Military Background: E5 Fire Team Leader (WLC honor grad) with one OEF deployment

I honestly didn't think I had much of a chance because I've only been in for a little over three years now and knew that I'd be competing against a lot of senior NCOs with multiple deployments and much better LoRs and so forth, plus my APFT score is pretty sucky.

To those not selected: keep trying! You've already done the hard part, and that was getting your packet together. Mine took me nearly nine months to completely finish, and there were times that I about gave up on trying to get it done. Now make it your sole mission to improve your packet for the next board, starting with your APFT score. Keep networking, and see if you can get an even better LoR to include. If you're active duty, go to your next NCOES school. Go to the Soldier/NCO of the Month Board and WIN it!

To those still working on your packets: keep going! Just putting all the pieces together is a real gut check as to how much you want to be an Army Aviator. It's intentionally long and difficult, but reading that MILPER message and seeing your name with a Q-S next to it is one of the most thrilling feelings you will ever have. Look at the suggestions I mentioned above for making your packet as competitive as possible, and definitely check out the other threads on this forum. There's a wealth of information out there, and it's up to you to seek it out.

To the others selected this (May) board: congrats! For those coming in from the civilian world, good luck in BCT and all that, and whenever you're tempted to give in to all the suck, give yourself a quick reality check and remind yourself that you're simply passing one last qualifier before heading to Rucker. And for those also already in active duty and just waiting for the WOCS orders, go do push-ups or something. :)

80. Right. Sure are a lot of people who got a perfect score... I call BS.

Come to Fort Campbell and I'll show you the paperwork. Either way, you're not making a good impression of yourself as a fellow newbie to attack someone else's integrity with nothing more than a gut feeling.

I don't know. its computer adaptive. His GT score definitely shows high capability. If his SIFT wasn't high and his GT was hi, that might put the credibility into question but, two high scores confirm each other. The SIFT really isn't that difficult. I made a 75 and I'm no rocket scientist...

Congratulations! I was talking to a WO (damn, WHY won't someone give me a look for an LOR?! about the 5th request ignored....anyway....) and he was adamant about how much BCT sucks and that, am I SURE sure that I want to get into this crazy military lifestyle, etc. I'm thinking to myself "A couple months out of my life for the best job on earth ever? For a minimum of 6 years? PFFT! Bring it ON brother! I'll go through TWO BCT classes if they let me fly!" I'll probably be the only basic trainee smiling at 0500 if I get in. :)

Anyway, best of luck to ya.

Same here man, I'll be excited to go through Army BCT, especially if I get to do the rumored "gentleman's course" version as a prior service NCO. Orienteering, rappelling down that wall, throwing grenades, live fire exercises, night ops with NVGs. Shooooot, in the Air Force, 10 years ago, during "warrior week" we got a big plastic M16 we called a "rubber ducky" and had to yell "Charging Weapon" to simulate chambering a round... We got a real one on shooting qualification day for a few hours, but that was it. So Army BCT sounds like a blast.

The rest of it is a breeze anyway, it's all a mind game, especially if you're in shape enough to be acing your PT like you would be if you get selected.

I found out the Wednesday of board week. I don't sign a form 4 until I head to MEPS for movement to Rucker. I signed the statement of understanding about not getting into trouble, as well as had ,y class date reserved, the following week.

Why 15 months? Seems longer than average.

Because #flightschool.

The norm is 18-24 months from BCT to graduation. Just depends on bubbles, injuries, airframe, etc. mostly out of your control.

Wow that's a lot longer than I expected. Does all that time count towards your contract or does that not start until you are fully trained?

Yes and no. You have a 6 year contract upon graduating WOCS but your 6 years resets after graduating flight school. So it counts towards time in service, pay grade, retirement, everything, Except that your 6 years is "renewed" the day you get your wings.

Nah, you've got to factor in wocs, wobc, sere, all that good stuff. You'll also learn a few hateful new words, like 'bubble' and 'b co.'

As Lindsey said, it's a long process and you'll have to learn to love Mother Rucker, but it's all worth it. I should be out of here around Jan, barring catastrophe

What is b co? I see that all over here and can't find an Army acronym for it.

Bravo Company, 1st Battalion, 145th Aviation Regiment. It's where you belong as a Warrant Officer from WOCS to Graduation. That's where you are accountable to, who you report to PT with, who assigns you details during bubbles, etc etc. It's a gigantic company.
