redsun
I'm new here and have a related question I have a some spit on my record if you will my two convictions are: -a speeding ticket 100mph in a 65mph has been fully paid and is from 2012 or 13-and an illegal drug DUI conviction from 2014 currently being paid I regret these decisions dearly and am looking to the future I have always dreamt of which obviously is piloting a helicopter. What do you all think my chances are and can you give me some constructive criticism or advice?

AD13
DWI - 6 years agoPublic urination - violation (last year)Obstruction of justice - this year (arguing with a police officer)Speeding - 47 in a 30 (yesterday) sounds embarrassing I know, but will it prevent me from getting cleared by the FAA or any flight school? I know a guy who received two DUI convictions in consecutive years and still did ok. Dick Cheney. Two-term Vice President of The United States of America. Two-term Vice President of The United States of America. There you go. Simply become a corrupt vice president. Of course, Cheney wasn't attempting a commercial helicopter career, either. A drug related DUI I'd say you'll never get hired unless you were on legal prescription pills and drove and just made a mistake. If you drive under the influence of a street drug then I'd say you have other issues as well that need dealt with. You are probably on probation? Court mandated classes to deal with the drug use? Is your drivers licenses suspended or conditional? Edited March 30, 2015 by Flying Pig
PondJumper
To the OP. I'll not pass any judgement, or give an opinion either way. I will give you the best advice bassed on things I've seen with guys in your position. Do yourself a favor and go get a flight physical asap. Question 18 will ask about your criminal record (and this is important), be honest about ALL of it. You will need to write a letter explaining what happened and why it will never happen again. You will have to wait 60 days for a decision whether or not you can receive a waiver. only then will you know for sure. From what I've seen, there is a solid chance you'll get approved for your medical. Also, from experience, getting hired as a CFI has more to do with what you do as a flight student than what you did 6 years ago. It is basically a job interview that lasts two years. If you are the kind of student that always shows up early, ready to learn, with a great attitude, that will be how you are judged. I recently finished all my ratings and believe me, you should have plenty of chances to prove whether or not you are pilot material. If you show up late with excuses why you aren't prepared, and a poor casual attitude, your criminal record will be of little concern as you won't even be considered.
