I am an Army Instructor pilot with a CFI in Rotary wing helicopters and want to start instructing in my off time. What do I need to do. I will be in the Colorado Springs area for the next several years

Start visiting the flight schools and feel out the local situation and if they have a need. You might expect to put forth the effort and transition to a piston (piston transition lol). If you get lucky and the school has a need they might help you with that. But I would expect to show some initiative and be ready to invest in training. Majority of schools will be using the R22- going to have some SFAR 73 requirements to meet.

Get 50 hours in an R22, an endorsement to teach in an R22, and probably take a trip to the Robinson factory to take the Safety Course in an R22, then get your flight review in an R22 every two years!

Find a school that uses the Schweizer and ask them how many hours they would need you to get in it before they would consider hiring you to teach in one!
