The only thing I would suggest to VA student And I don't even know if it can be done is to take a long line course in a 22 or S300 and see if you can get the $5000 in S300 time. Instead of 5hrs of LL you could end up with 15-20. I'm sure it's doesn't work that way..... But who knows. The schools sell it to the VA as a 5hr course.

Honestly.... I would do as much of my training as I could at night too.

I don't think the point of these new courses (like long line) is really to "better prepare new pilots for the job market". They're just for these schools to get their piece of the free money pie while it lasts. So doing them in anything smaller than a 206 would be counter productive to that goal!

I could be wrong though, and there could be a whole slew of new pilots getting hired because of their 206/LL training?,...doubt it though!

I did fly a 22 that had been set up (at one time) for long lining, so its possible, but I've never seen a school advertise long line training in a 22,...or at all, for that matter, just a handful of years ago!

2 pilots and full fuel in a 22? Sorry, but you're gonna have to pick just one of those!

Okay, one's not a pilot. Pilots are kind of fat anyway. I want to be the exception to that rule. Now that I think about it, make them both not pilots. We can save a lot more weight that way. Now how much will it sling ?

Actually I was thinking more like either taking less gas or flying solo, but... :D

As for saving weight by taking non pilots, think about this; We pilots have an incentive to stay at least below 200 lbs, the general public does not!,...and have you been to Sizzler?

2 pilots and full fuel in a R22 with a long line. How much external load can it lift ? I don't know the answer, but I have a good guess.

While at the time I had no desire to fly Vref, the school where I taught had a Vref course utilizing an R22 as the trainer. The training was conducted at a nearby uncontrolled airport with fuel services so student and CFI weight was easily mitigated. Additionally, a tire was used as the load.... Even though a couple of the instructors had no Vref beyond teaching the course, they were pretty were impressive with their skill, knowledge and technique…..

Oh, this school had an R22 Ag course as well which included an STC approved spray boom……

That's one thing I am worried about. I am 199 right now. I am 6' and bulky. When I was in Afghanistan, I went to the gym every day. Now I am regretting it. I should have stayed small. It's a lot harder to lose bulk.

Cburg, that's awesome! Did you pick up one of the two that were for sale down at the factory? I saw a silver one and a flat black one when I was down there for the fly in. Please log your experience, starting with the first flight. Hopefully I'll pass check ride 2 and then I'll be looking that way as well. Did you consider the Helicycle before you pulled the trigger?

It was a crazy thing. I was at the airport with my 269 and some kid with a factory built XET was there. I said "you want to trade?" and he said yes.. He's trying to become a pro and found out that the t-time was not that valuable.

I whipped out the forms and the rest is history.

Has a 13,000 trailer with it and a re-fueling system.

Seriously though congrats Cburg have fun and be safe. To the guy who bought your 269 good call to get employable, and to Pilot # 4763981000 way to break a grand!
