May 2014 WOFT Board

Recommended Posts

Given most Jan. selects are starting Oct. 02, I would think no sooner than late Oct., likely November for WOCS... BCT for those that need it obviously has to line up too.

Last year they also had a lot more slots to fill. I would be expecting more bubbles, longer ship times, etc so they can get everyone classed up. If you're going straight to WOCS it will likely be sooner but if the Jan selectees are already in FY15 then it looks like they have FY14 already planned out.

Ya seriously, about four more weeks! I'm thinkin a September or November date.

Just to give you an idea, I got selected in Nov 2013 and I'll be going to BCT 6 months after I got selected. Not sure if it's standard (some selected at the same time shipped out in Feb). Just depends I guess.

exactly this

I was a Jan selectee AD and don't start class until Oct 28

I was a Jan selectee and I leave in May. However, I found out about being accepted on Jan 15, and I went and signed my contract the next day, so I got school dates in May. Here on the forum, I was watching the other Jan selectees find out that they were accepted. Some didn't find out for another week or so. It seemed that the ones who found out later or signed the contract later got later school dates. It could be a first come first serve thing for slots. That being said, I would check in with your recruiter daily around the time you are expecting results. Once you have found out, sign your contract ASAP for sooner dates. If you want to leave later, I would wait a week or so.

Do you remember what day you signed your contract?

Also, 6 months after Nov is around May time frame. When do you ship, if you don't mind me asking. I'm out on May 27 to Ft Benning.

Ah that makes sense. I wonder if the civilians signing their contracts affect AD school dates. I would imagine someone in your chain still has to sign something, and depending on when they do that, it may determine when your training starts. But that's just a guess.

Why would someone in my chain (anyone on AD) have a say in what the Army says I'm doing? It's completely out of their hands. Everyone had the ability to put a "comfy" date in their 160r if you needed time from selection until wocs.

Mine said ASAP. We'll see what happens.

Yeah, not in your chain perhaps. But I'm assuming, and could be wrong so anyone who knows better please correct me, that someone has to schedule you for your dates. If your 160r says ASAP and whoever is imputing you into the system takes their time for some reason, then maybe it's possible that earlier slots can get snatched up by civilians signing their contract sooner. Again, that may not be how it works. I'm just throwing out a guess since several people from the Jan board who wanted to go ASAP have dates that are up to 6 months apart.

Yea, I put ASAP and got Oct (selected Jan) so that has no bearing on when you actually are scheduled

I would guess just about everyone (with a few exceptions) would put ASAP. Especially for those not in Guard/Reserve. We're looking to start our AD career as an aviator, there isn't much of a reason to say, "I wanna go...but can I go next year, instead?"

Ok folks, so i submitted my packet a few weeks ago, but also needed a moral waiver for a prior incident. I got an email from USAREC yesterday saying that the waiver was disapproved. I know there has to be a way to appeal this thing and prove it was a one time incident and that my moral character is not in question by any means.

Can any of you guys help? Has anyone appealed a waiver decision before? Please assist!

I dont have a direct solution for you, but will point out the obvious, I think almost any waiver is a hot item now. Depending on what its for (guessing u didnt want to say), I also think you have two options: 1) it will never happen bc of what its for i.e. a DWI 2) it may be harder to get, but that shouldnt keep you from getting it. A phone call/email from the right person to the right person could help.

I would start making noise if I knew it 'could' be approved, but just wasnt. Since ur AD, I would consider letting a senior officer ur close to know, sometimes this is grounds for returning favors, never know... Best I can say is pick up the phone and figure out if this problem can be solved and how, also would submit appeal on my own now if possible and work out details and pull strings as they come up.

Sorry for the long.post! I want to be completely honest and put everything out there so I might get some feedback. Thanks ahead of time!

Now I'm in the same boat as Delta53. I got a Public Intox in 2009 (I had been drinking and chose not to drive...had to walk down a street with no sidewalk just off campus...cop was bored, I think) class C misdemeanor. It required a moral waiver and yesterday I was told USAREC is not giving out moral waivers. I'm not giving up but it's all about timing. Since it was my only blemish and it was 5 years ago I was hoping it wouldn't be an issue but I understand the competitiveness, especially during the draw down.

I've been told it isn't possible to appeal and there is no telling how long I would have to wait to reapply since it was already a long time ago. Any advice for me and Delta would be greatly appreciated!

My wife is (was) putting off law school for me to pursue my Army aviation dreams but now I feel it is unfair to keep her in limbo. I don't want to use the Guard/Reserves as a back door, simply an option that may work better for us moving forward. Guard slots are hard to come by, I know but my question is this:

Since I didn't get a USAREC waiver am I dead in the water with NG? Is it still up to the guard's discression? I'm considering enlisting as a 15T to get some experience, prove myself worthy and build a rapport.

Enlisting as a 15T isn't going to hurt your already NO answer you've received. It could only help your chances right? It doesn't have to be guard either unless you want to fly guard in the long run. Don't use the guard as a possible way around the system, that won't end well.

If worse comes to worse, and you never end up in military flight school, at least you can still serve your country and make some money having a great enlisted career... Having a fall back option is nice.

Thanks Yamer. I'm definitely not using it as a way around. I just think it's fair to my wife to go Guard. Our deal was that if I don't get in this year, she will go to law school and I will try Guard/Reserves. I've also heard there are full time Guard positions? I'm waiting to hear back from my local Guard unit.

I'm in the reserves and just put a packet in and was told my moral waiver was approved. It was for a minor in consumption that was deferred. (Also in 2009, the day before I deployed haha)

Edit*

I'm wondering if the moral waiver process is different for civilian applicants.

Also, usarec site doesn't say anything about not accepting moral waivers.
