New Job Page

Recommended Posts

Thanks for the feedback. The new site is different. I agree. Anytime I tweaked it over the last 12 years I have owned it, I got grief. People do not like change, I understand that.

Having said that, this new board, which is a third party designed and hosted board designed specifically for employers and job seekers has 100X more power, functionality, and richer features than the old one.

Here are some of the comparison features.

This new board has a completely separate mobile friendly version. Our stats show that our mobile visitors have increase by 30% in the last year. The old site had NO mobile option.

This new board SAVES YOU TIME in viewing jobs. With the old site, which had all expanded listings, you had to scroll at least 10 full page lengths, to see for example, the first page of 20 job listings. You had to scroll past the entire body text of every listing, whether you were interested in it or not. NOW, if you click on Browse Pilot Jobs ---you are presented with only a thumbnail that gives you the most pertinent info first (Title, Company Name, Job Location, Hours Required). You can determine from that info if it warrants more of your attention and you can click on the ad to see the whole thing. The net result of this layout is that you can now see 20 jobs and only scroll 1 page length --- as opposed to being forced to scroll 10 pages and view entire jobs that you have no interest in.

This new board allows new enhanced SEARCH capability that we never had before:

  • Search Category, Keywords, Location
  • Zip Code Proximity
  • Saved Searches
  • Featured Listings Display 1st in Search Results
  • Paged Search Results - Previous, Next, Go To Page

This new board allows YOU TO NOW CREATE and maintain a profile with a resume, video, photos attached to it. Your profile, if you choose to create one, will be completely searchable by all employers that use the site. The old site had no such feature.

For the EMPLOYERS, this new site allows them to establish profiles as well and maintain, edit, renew all of their job listings themselves in the back office admin area. They can also do searches of jobseeker resumes and profiles on the site to connect with those who are looking for work. The old site did not have that.

For OUR MANAGEMENT we have more tools to control:

  • Title, Category, Industry, Employment Type, Work Schedule, Description, Requirements, Experience Required, Degree Required, Clearance, Pay, Job Location, Contact Info, Privacy Settings
  • Resume: Title, Contact Info, Privacy Settings, Desired Job Info, Experience, Education, Resume, Photos
  • Featured Jobs
  • Unlimited Categories
  • Nested Category Levels
  • Upload Photos (resume)
  • Photos Automatically Resized
  • Photo Thumbnails Automatically Created
  • More Jobs from This Advertiser
  • Ad View Counter
  • Map to Employer

Thanks again for the feedback. We launched it a couple days ago, and we are getting used to it ourselves and tweaking it with feedback from users. Although different, I believe it will be a better tool for both employers and jobseekers in the long run.

As a job seeker I have to say it DOESN'T SAVE ME TIME. Before I had one click and there I was looking at the latest job, now I have to scroll down to the latest jobs then click again to see if I meet the minimums. So now instead of taking 3 seconds to see there are no jobs I'm qualified for, it now takes 4!

...but to each his own?

If it ain't broke don't fix it!,...that's my moto,...er, cliche! :D

Lyn,

Thanks for the update...I wasn't feelin it either, but now that we have the low down on it, its rather interesting. Thanks for upping the game and allowing us to host our sorry mugs in the soup line!

Hopefully this site grows and helps us hungry pilots find a new home with the employers that post here.

:D

Thanks again. Because I value your time, I want to help you get your 1 second back!

Please read carefully . . . .

I think I see the problem. If you are looking at the latest jobs, that may not be the best place to look. That ony shows the last 10 jobs posted in any category . . . pilot, mech, nurse, medic, and so on, PLUS it only gives you the title and location.

When you want to view pilot jobs --- Under "BROWSE JOBS BY CATEGORY" click the word PILOTS. There you will see 20 job thumbnails that present you with Job Title, Company Name, Location, Minimum Flight Hours Required. Surely you can look at those little bits of info and determine if you want to look at it closer.

You land on the jobs page ---ONE CLICK and boom, 20 pilot job thumbnails presented to you.

Here is the link to that page: http://helicopterjobs.justhelicopters.com/employment/pilots-browse-69.aspx

Here is what it looks like.

Hello VR,

This is my first forum post, so I hate to disagree with the consensus, but I find the new site more navigable. I appreciate that each job is more discretely presented, it makes differentiation between jobs easier.

Thanks!

Gee all I get now is an error message, but just on my phone! Computer still gets the new page. Oh' well, fortunately for me there's only two job posts a year I'm actually qualified to respond to, so I guess it really doesn't matter?

The mobile version is back up now. I was aware that the hosting company had activated the mobile version URL on Friday, Prior to that, it was the test servers URL. . . when it should have said helicopterjobs.justhelicopters.com/MOBILE

I asked them to fix that. As it turns out, they still had typed in the incorrect requested URL. They fixed that yesterday. I am still working with the developer to tweak the layout a little bit, as well as some of the functionality as we begin to get feedback from users actually using the system.

So how much and what type of helicopter experience do you have?

Hey Lyn,

I have one minor "issue" and then one request. The issue has been around for a while now I just haven't said anything about it cause it really isn't anything major, but since the new job board has been brought up, I figure I should let you know anyway.

If I am on the main page or any other page of VR and hover over "JOBS" then click on "Helicopter Jobs" it brings me to Jobs>Helicopter Jobs page which is correct. However, if I'm in the forums here and then hover over "JOBS" and click on "Helicopter jobs" it brings me to the Career Development>Helicopter flight training page.

Now the request,

I'm a big fan of tabs and have been known to have like 20 tabs open all at once, (I know resource taxing) anyway I don't know if it would be possible but on the new job board it would be nice to be able to open each job posting in a new tab. I like to scroll through the listings and open each posting in a separate tab first, then go back and close the tabs as I read more in depth on each posting. As it stands now there is no way that I can find anyway to open each listing in a new tab and I have a tendency to get lost, haha.

Other than the tab thing I love the new page though and it looks nice. Thanks for all the hard work you do.

AngelFire_91,

At first, I was going to say "try right clicking it" but thankfully, I went to confirm before I wrote.

Problem:

The links are in javascript, not HTML, so your mouse doesn't react the same way. This seems to be an issue that has existed for a long time with javascript pages.

I looked through the site's code and saw that the link is associated with the title of the job:

example: Rotor Wing Pilot (IFR) or Director of Operations...

Solution:

So, if you right-click on the title of each job, your normal menu will open and you can choose to open in a new tab.

I hope that helps,

-PK
