I agree Wally, my comment wasn't intended to be an attack on mil pilots. A show off pilot can come from any background.

 

I don't think an instructor's goal should be to show a student how great they are, or what wonderful things they have done in the past. Civ or mil, that is irrelevant to the student with respect to flight lessons. That experience is great discussion topics for what other things might be out there after training.

 

What does help, like you said, is experience in teaching. The experienced instructor can quickly identify the root cause of a students error and correct it quickly, which saves the student time, money, and frustration.
