Next step WOFT/WOCS?

Recommended Posts

So, I was selected on the civilian WOFT (AD) board in May (prior service Marine), signed my stuff, ship out in september. I still have not recieved a welcome packet, email, or had any communication with the Army other than my recruiters, who are probably more confused than I am at this point. MEPS still won't authorize me to travel to Rucker via POV, and the only contact information I have isn't yielding me any results (No one answers the phone or replies to emails). Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated!

Get online and download the wocs welcome packets... Google it...

If you have your army issue stuff already, start stenciling. In accordance with woc sop. If you can get ahold of a copy prior to being there.

Otherwise just sit back, relax and enjoy freedom as long as you can

Sheesh. I don't know then. I would think meps is going to publish your orders on "ship day" when you say your oath? Then you will leave there and POV/pcs move to Rucker? They allow you a certain amount of days for travel here.

Maybe someone will chime in who's been through it before

My class had a prior marine. Dude was cut but he failed situps several times and ended up failing completely out of wocs. I'm sure you've got it covered just fyi: army is big on situps for some reason. We can't do pullups, however.

The sit-ups are just a lot different then the crunches we are used to. Always get 100 crunches, but when I first tried sit-ups, I did like 50 2-3 weeks later it was 75, thats when I went to Airborne, it shouldn't be that hard to transition over to a full sit up, that just shows me that Marine didn't care enough. Now I'm having trouble going from 77-82 I need to max, I've been stuck for a while, any advice?

Train for what you are going to do, there is a prettier version of that saying but I can't remember it.

Anyways, time yourself for 2 mins and do the sit ups 3 times a day, try to do some cardio before hand to simulate the push ups you would have done before the sit ups(or actually do the pushups, it would not hurt, just probably not great to max out that muscle 3 times a day).

Remember, the stronger the supporting muscles are, the easier it should be, try the scissors kicks and different varieties of abdominal work outs.

Also, focus on the breathing, breath in when going up, exhale when going down, this might be mental, but has helped my endurance somewhat, milage may vary.

Last one, DON'T quote me on this one and this of course depends on the graders. Read the regs to see how low amd how high you have to go. The how high I believe is when you are perpendicular to the ground, from what I've been told, no need to put your head on between your legs.

I am on no ways saying to do the minimum effort, but you are there and you can score high on the test, but you can also beat it. Any extra effort you put into every single rep will take time which is of course precious and won't get you a higher score.

I hope this helps, cheers.

Ref: Your POV issue.

As a prior service Marine you are essentially coming in "street to seat." You will not be allowed to drive your personal vehicle to Rucker - well, you can but the Army won't pay for it. You will be given a plane ticket just like when you left for boot camp in the Marines. You get off the plane in Dothan, catch a ride to Rucker, and report in to 1st WOCC.

When you arrive at Rucker you will report in your civilian clothes. Over the first couple of days you will be directed to clothing sales with a chit that allows you to receive your initial issue of Army clothing.

Near the end of WOCS you will receive PCS orders, at which time you can arrange for shipment of household goods, etc. I suggest doing a DITY move so that you can make the arrangements before you actually get orders and ultimately be reimbursed - orders come late sometimes and therefore you may not have much time to set up a move if you let the government do it all.

Right after WOCS you can take leave to go home and complete that DITY move, get your car, etc.

I would not expect a lot of communication before you ship out. Basically, just like Marine Corps boot camp. The day before you ship you go to the recruiter, MEPS, get your ticket and orders, and get on the plane. That's about it. Any preparation you do before that is on your own.

Sweet. There's not a lot of information about the situation I'm in. Thank you very much UH-60 for shedding some light on my situation! On a side note, I hit 80 sit ups no problem. Any Marine who is unable to do the Army's 45-50 situp minimum is kind of a sh*t bag IMO.

First of all, congratulations on being selected for WOFT/WOCS. However, I would recommend that you check that attitude at the front gate. If not, your APFT may go like this:

You- knocking out perfect sit-ups (or push-ups)

TAC- counting- "2, 2, 2, 2 GET UP CANDIDATE- YOUR DONE!"

It is OK to be overly prepared and confidant in your ability. Just don't come across as an arrogant and cocky former Marine Corp prick or your life may be miserable. The TAC's will see it from a mile away.

Again, congratulations and enjoy!

Well I was merely replying to the previous post that gave an example of a shitty Marine. IMO anyone in any branch of the armed services should be able to do the 50 sit-up min. I by no means think Marines are superior to any other branch, just different training and higher physical standards (longer run, lower body fat standards, and the dreaded pull-up).

All of the Prior Service people that I attended WOCS with, had a POV. That included the non Army folks. So I'm not sure what the deal is with that, but those might have been different circumstances. I'd go with what UH60 said, because I know that stuff to be true. Some of the stuff is going to be a real pain, but it is all possible.

I do not have a current WOC SOP to give. The one I had was changed 1 month after I pinned and that was over 2 years ago. If you can get one, do it and utilize your time wisely at Rucker before you class up. For the love of all that is holy, do PT leading up to arrival. You're going to do a lot of it when you get there and the TAC's do the initial graded PT test to get into a Class. You will be doing Pull Ups so don't stop doing those. Before you walk into TAC Alley(TAC's Office Buildings), you'll be required to do a set amount. Not to mention PT, like everything else there, is Candidate run.

There's plenty more info to be given if and when you need it. I am still at Ft Rucker and may be here through your attendance of WOCS so let me know what other questions you have and if there's anything I can help with.

It just feels weird having busted my ass to get everything in for the deadline of the board, being on the edge of my seat with anticipation and then finally finding out I'm selected-only to be told to standby. It's like an eerie silence. I don't even know who/how/when I'll be contacted by HRC. I do know that there'll be a sh*t ton of administrative things (what, I have no idea) to take care of with my inter-service transfer and all. The receiving USAR unit can't even touch me till they're complete. It's been 11 days but who's counting. B)

I know going from the USMCR-USAR isn't an everyday occurrence but if there's anyone on here who can shed some light as to some of the administrative things I'll be encountering here in the near future, that'd help.

I was selected on the same board, and on the AD Army side of the house the only thing that I've seen so far is that the AEA code on my ERB has changed to I : WARRANT OFFICER CANDIDATE ACTION PENDING. I guess that's a whole lot better than nothing. Is there an assignment availability code on your service record brief? If so, that might be an indicator of busywork to come.

Edit: Also, when I creep on the RFO link on HRC it no longer says "Unsupported Soldier"... Basically now it tells me to take a knee, face out, and drink water.

Just remember there have been hundreds of inter-service transfers over time. I showed up to WOCS with no basic Army issue, only changed my ID card over to SSG from PO1 so anyone wouldn't question it, but still running around with civies on. 2 prior USN buds that had 1 yr out of service had to do the whole boot camp thing all over again, guess that has changed too.

For in the in-process APFT, just pass is all I can say really. 11yrs of Navy crunches and 1.5 mile runs took some time to adjust to the Army old style sit-ups, and I still don't max. At least that way you are set in WOCS to spend your weekends picking leaves out of the rock gardens or painting everything.

Working in TRADOC I will tell you that you can protest any ethical issues and take it to the next chain of command. There's no way a leadership school would ever let this happen, even after it's pointed out as an issue from a standards point.
