15T in a flight co

Recommended Posts

Hey all, quick question. What does brand new 15T (UH-60 Repairer) do while in a flight company? It's my understanding that all real maintenance occurs in D Co. and that 15T's in flight Co's are usually crew chiefs. I'm currently NG, and waiting to go to BCT/AIT in Sept. My enlistment contract stated that I was heading to 1/244th CAB B Co. While at my last RSP drill(which is in a different city than my actual unit)I was speaking with an E5 that used to be with the 244th, and he was making it sound like that since I was going straight to a flight co, that I would begin RL progression towards being a crew chief. Just curious if this would actually happen seeing as I am brand new, and just a PFC. Seems as though they would do that with SPC and SGTs from D.Co. no?

In a line company you'll be a crew chief as you mentioned above. Unless you can't pass a flight physical, then you won't be flying.

Make sure you mention that the only 'real maintenance' happens in D CO, your guys will love that.

15Tangos do maintenance in a line company. Additionally they may even supervise phases in Dco. You may find yourself flying, landing then doing a 40 hour. It's not flying or maintenance, it's sometimes both.

That makes sense, and I have no problem doing maintenance. Just thought that it would be awhile before seeing any flight time, not right out of the gate.

It really just depends on the company...

x2

We had 2 E3's in our flight company come straight out of AIT and get put on flight status, really just depends on the company.

I think the better crew chiefs are the one's that spend time in D co. so that they are more familiar with systems and components in the off chance of a PL, they can actually perform the work.

My old company had a history of taking Tangos who were proven in D Co before coming over. Going into one of the last deployments, we had some openings, with no experienced volunteers, so we got some straight from AIT. ...it has its downfalls.

Wait I'm cornfused!!!!

You're joining the guard and doing an AD woft packet? At the same time? WTF

No? Im in the guard and preparing a packet that can be submitted when I get back from bct/ait.

I did however start this packet while applying for AD woft.

Yeah, it happens sometimes, but don't get your hopes too high. What also happens sometimes is some personnel dude will see that the flight company has an opening and thinks it will be easier to fill it with incoming personnel rather than playing musical chairs, but when you show up the company leadership might be like "Nope, you need to go to D Co first", which is well within their power to say and it's an easy fix. No idea which situation you're in so I'd be prepared for both.

That's pretty much exactly how I imagined it playing out in my head.
