So what do you think the odds are of getting hired here after graduation, if you're a guy?

Recommended Posts

American Helicopters just posted an ad on JSfirm for a 140 lbs or less CFII. So if you're a student there (and I guess they're really big in Virginia) who weighs more than 140 lbs, do you think they'll hire you? Because as an average sized guy, that ad would seriously make me think twice about training there!

Maybe they should re-word it a bit, or get a few S300s?

Its a way of selectively eliminating male applicants. Might look at how many female CFI's they employee, and then look at how many guys they attract to spend money!!!!

I have no idea really, its just my guess.

I imagine they are trying to train bigger people in the 22. I know at my school some guys have to train in the 44 because they are bigger. A lot of them are within the weight range per the POH, however once you add the instructor you just become so limited on the amount of fuel. I have it nice since I weigh right about 140, so with most of the instructors we can just about top tanks.

Those guys who are within the weight limits of the 22, but "have" to train in the 44, are they given a discount due to the school not having cfis light enough to train them in the 22, or apparently the option to train in the S300?

I do not believe so. However the majority of the guys having to use the 44 instead of 22 are VA funded. I know per the POH and everything that they COULD use the 22 but I am curious just how comfortable it would be since even I'm bumping into the instructor on the collective.

I called and spoke to one of the instructors over there a month back. Very nice guy; he took plenty of his own time to answer all of my questions. I actually brought the 140 lbs topic up as well. It was more of a "well, we can wish" thing. I doubt it would be a discriminator if it came down to hiring someone with the right qualifications and attitude.

Employment checklist for self...to get hired at American Helicopters:

1...lose 40 or so pounds

2...Get CFII (Rotary)

3...Investigate sex change operation.

By the time I get all this done, they probably will have all the 140lb (female) CFII's (Rotary) that they need, and I'll be left holding the bag.
