Calculated Gamble (WOC applicant)

Recommended Posts

your opinions welcome.

I have almost completed my WOFT packet and am now looking at transitioning into guard rather than AD. In doing so I have to go to BCT and AIT prior to dropping my packet per the guard requirements.

The calculated gamble is that the Guard Battalion has to approve the packet before it is sent to Ft Rucker for final approval, I would like to stack the deck in my favor and have it looked at by an approving official and get a blessing so to speak from the Ft Rucker lvl prior to even dropping it at Battalion lvl "I" believe it would be beneficial.

I would be attending BCT and afterwards AIT at Ft Rucker (Unconfirmed at this time). The calculated risk is that i would like to coordinate a sit down with personal who are in the know while attending AIT to review my packet at the Ft Rucker lvl if possible.

For personal who are "In the Know, is this something that is even possible"? I am not looking for someone to say yes this will be a 100% go for the selection. I am only looking for an honest opinion on what needs improvement or correction prior to dropping at the Battalion lvl.

Thank you

What makes you think you will be attending AIT at Fort Rucker?

As an aside, the word you are looking for is "personnel," not "personal." Just a little pet peeve of mine. :)

The Commander for the gaining guard unit has a slot open for 15P in his company for which i would be trained so that i have an Army Aviation MOS which is required for packet submission.

The commander is working with my recruiter to ensure i get picked up for that slot. and according the the "Net" the AIT for 15P is at Ft Rucker.

Ah, tracking. Yes, 15P is here at Rucker. I was hoping you weren't under the impression that aviation maintenance is here at Rucker, if that's what you were looking to do (tons of prior crew chiefs running around here).

The Commander here has made it clear it is not a 100% but the odds are better than staying where i am at currently. not to mention it puts me working with Rotor pilots which "Could" lead to further civilian opportunities also which i do not have in current location/unit.

You will have zero ability to contact anyone while you're here at AIT besides your platoon sgt who will probably not care to help you. Also, I'm not sure guard packets get approved by rucker like you think. In Arizona, it's all up to the state, nothing to do with rucker.

If you want to go guard, do bct, ait, get home and take your packet from there. Take the 50m targets one at a time instead of shooting for the 1000m target right away. Guard is a much longer process for woft, but well worth it

I second what Yamer said. It is Ok to have goals and aspirations. But don't show up on day 1 in your guard unit, especially having not yet even graduated from BCT and AIT, and start talking about your packet for WOFT. That will not go over well with your enlisted peers, the WO's or the Chain of Command.

I am also in your steps and was wondering two things Which state is the Guard you are joining?

And if they have given you the opportunity to take the SIFT and Class A Physical Before enlisting.

Here in PR the State Warrant Officer Strength Manager Mentioned that I would be taking the SIFT and Class A Physical Before enlisting but this will vary from state to state was curious what does your state say and which state it is.

Thanks for the input, regardless i am going to try and get into the 15P position even it not able to contact anyone at Ft Rucker during my stay there. The reason for this is that it minimizes the expense to the Gaining Unit in training costs and allows me (Potentially) to be back in home state prior to Battalion Deadline for WOFT packet.

As for the which state i am submitting in. I would prefer to keep that information withheld until i have more information in hand. I will say i am not in PR and i am not being allowed to take the SIFT until completion of BCT/AIT.

Once again, thank you for the valuable input.

I'll be the first to answer your question clearly.

No, you will not be speaking to anyone "in the know" here at Fort Rucker, nor will you be speaking with an "approving official" at Fort Rucker. Nobody that makes any decision at Fort Rucker will give you any indication as to the quality of your packet. In fact, you will not even have any indication as to who one of those "approving officials" might be. You will not meet, and if you do, you will not know it.

The "honest opinion" you are looking for is this. Be the best solider that you can be and put together the best packet that you are able. There is no special insider information for you to glean and no premature indications as to the success or failure of your packet when viewed by the "approving officials."
