Ardo09203
Shiped to Ft. Jackson last week, reception when by fine, albeit it sucked, but no issues. Two days before ship day I was cleaning the latrine, and while clean a tough spot off the mirror I cracked it. Long story short, I told the PG, he told the DS, DS said I had to pay for it, last I hear about it. Next thing you know, its ship day, and im standing in line waiting for the bus. DS calls me out of line and has me fill out a blank Statement of Charges so they have my info. As the busses are litterally pulling up, DS pulls me back out of line says the commander wants me to standfast until a proper SoC can be calculated by 1SG and I sign it. Of course its ship day and no one has time for that. So I get to watch the busses drive away as I stand there a healthy squared away soilder and fall into hold over status. If you've never been a hold over, it is terrible! Detail after detail, and the DS wont tell you anything!

aeroscout
I guess you better not break a helicopter.Well it's 7 years bad luck if you break a mirror. One of the aircraft I used to fly had 2 mirrors. No way would I ever crash that. Who wants 14 years of bad luck ?
electron_si
I just realized this thread was posted on the INTERNET from basic training at Ft Jackson. Wow times have really changed. I remember waiting in line for the pay phone with my calling card at ft jackson, and that was only 9 years ago.

USCav19D
Pretty sure you're full of it. There is definitely a different mentality between people who went to OSUT IET stations such as Benning, Sill or (back when it was cool) Knox. I've also noticed that the attitude we're getting from guys graduating Benning these days isn't as well disciplined as it used to be. I've heard stories of privates being called into the drill sergeant's office to help said drill sergeant pass a hard level of Battlefield 3, and that was from the bloody drill sergeant! I'm not a crusty old NCO, I've only been in for seven years. But there's definitely a mentality difference between the guys who joined the Army to shoot people in the face, and those who did it to support said face-shooters. It's a difference emphasized in basic training, even more so with the liberties granted during AIT. That's not necessarily a bad thing, but it is there.
