January 2015 board

Recommended Posts

Weird... In my time I've worked with prior AF, USMC, even bloody submariners... I don't recall them going through BCT. Maybe they repressed the memory, or perhaps I wasn't listening.

Marines can switch to any service and not do basic again, army can switch to AF or navy without doing basic over however if going into MC you must do basic again navy and AF must do basic to switch to MC or Army

the letter of understanding states it. If I didn't go to BCT or warrior transition course of Marine basic training, Seal, TACP, Spec ops, Security forces, Para rescue or things like that. My Air Force BMT doesn't cut it.

hey everyone I have a question. I submitted my transcript that has all 108 credit hours on it. I didn't submit anything for my Associates degree. it is on my ERB stating I have it. I am on leave this upcoming week. I will swing by the office and see if I have any emails. will they let me know if something is incorrect?

My 2cents.... Always shoot for a 300

Your two cents couldn't be more spot on. I don't care if you're an 18B or a 42A, nobody should be settling for a mediocre PT score. Not that 270 is middling, but I hate this attitude of people who actually thing 180 is good enough.

I am a realist guys/gals. I max pushup and sit-ups, for me to get a 300 I would have to cut my run something fierce. I know I can get my run close to 14:25. that will but me around 285ish. Im about 200lbs and I don't move as fast. not like I was 175lbs. I need to run faster than a 13:30 to get a 300. it is doable. but I don't have the time to get it that low. 180?? isn't that the min?? There are people just like that in the Air Force. Just doing the min at everything and they wonder why they have no responsibility and everyone else has to pick up their slack.

I bumped up a few points last minute just by bettering my technique. My 2 cents.

I'm praying the cut off for updates IS end of Dec because I just submitted today. I used a Marine Flag officer in lieu of a SWO for the time being. Hopefully the recruiters are right (lol) and the advise I recieved to submit with what I had was correct. I'm pretty sure, with the luck I've had so far, that I'll be starting a May board here in couple weeks...

the Cut off for updates were extended to 29 Dec. For initial upload was 21 Nov, they extended the deadline for upload until below. I do not know how lenient they are? does anyone here know?

Deadline for the JANUARY 2015 Warrant Officer Selection Board is EXTENDED to 22 DEC 14 for the following MOSs: 150U, 352N, 352S, 353T, 880A, and 881A. Bottom Line: We are SIGNIFICANTLY SHORT APPLICANTS applying for these specialties!

I fully understand the realist thing however, setting the bar high is a mind set that will take you far, particularly in this career field. because reality is there is a slim choice of getting into this career. And if you do, you don't wanna just make it throught WOFT, you should want to graduate at the top of your class. Not a "show off" thing just a personal pride thing. Not to mention better airframe selection. Like UScav said 270 is nothing to turn your nose at but if you at least go into with a 300 in mind you might surprise yourself. If not accept what you get and train for the next time. The whole WOFT process really is a midset thing.

I understand if I get selected I want to finish at the top of my class. I want to be able to choose what I want to fly and where I want to fly it. there is no doubt when I run I will run as fast as I can. but there is no way my body will let me cut almost 1:40 off of my run. I am putting in work to get my run down and last night I ran a 14:42. That's a 285ish I say "ish" because I could run a little faster or slower. compared to my 15:11. I just checked my paperwork and I scored a 276 sorry for saying 271. I will continue to try and improve. I have until 29 Dec, I can do a lot until then.

This is a great piece of information, thanks Lindsey. I'll be going over my LOR's now to decide which ones are truly worth while.

I was thinking the same thing when I saw your stats. Lindsey's post is 100% correct. Try to keep the CW4 LOR unless it's just really bland and impersonal (and in that case find a new CW4+). The retired LTC should be good. Elected officials of any kind are usually bad because everyone knows they've got staffers who will print out a stock LOR upon request for anyone who might be worth some votes. Even if it's a great letter and very personal you're risking the board member checking the signature block first and throwing it out before even reading it. You probably don't need letters from both your employer and supervisor.

Realistically though picking out LORs is a pointless exercise unless you can bring your PT score up. The boards are going to be very competitive this year. 244 probably wouldn't get it done even if the rest of your packet was ideal. Without a 4 year degree your odds of selection are near zero. The good news is you have plenty of time before the age cutoff and PT scores are one of the easiest things to fix. There have been some other posts recently linking to effective workout programs that target better APFT scores. If you follow them and resubmit with a 280+ you'll have a competitive packet.

Not the greatest but.....

Age: 30

GT/AFQT: 110

SIFT: 60

APFT: 256

Civilian Education:

Military Education: WLC Commandants List, 850 hrs ACC (not that anyone looks at those anymore)

Flight Physical: Complete and stamped

Flight Experience: None

LOR's: CW4 (SOAR),O-5 (BC), O-3 (CC)

Military Experience: 7.5 years TIS Active Duty Army, 4 years TIG as a Sergeant (Battle Field Promotion), Communications NCO, Navigations NCO, Security NCO, Platoon Sergeant of 53 Soldier Platoon, etc....

Waiver: None

Other: 1 Iraq and 1 Afghanistan deployment

If I were you, I'd start looking into FAST classes, continue working on PT, and find a school that's very friendly about credit evaluations for military service so you can at least get a bit of civilian ed credit on your application. Like right now. If you get picked up on the next board, great, those things will still pay off in the future. If not you've got a head start on improving the areas of your packet that have a lot of room for improvement. Unfortunately you don't have much time to waste at 30 years old.

How are you "updating" your APFT score?

Is it via the score card, and or the DA Form 61?

By taking the test again, having ur Commander resign the DA 61 and uploading it for an update to ur package. That is how I will do it. Is there another way?

Ok, that is what I assumed, but was not sure if there was another way.

Does anyone know the acceptance rate of military personnel required to that of civilians?

Prior to this fiscal year acceptance rate of civilians has been fairly high. Just to give you an idea NOV13 had 26 civilian applicants with 23 selected for WOFT. NOV14 had 31 civilian applicants with 11 selected for WOFT.
