So two years ago when I took the ASVAB I got a 95 AFQT / 128 GT. However, since my score expired I retook it a few days ago and scored an 87 AFQT / 124 GT. I was hoping to at least get back to the 90's -- has anyone heard of retaking the ASVAB to get a better score? I know I can do better.

I asked my recruiter, but she isn't sure I can retake it to get a higher score (she's been wrong before so I take what she says with a grain of salt)

Any insight on this?

I'm not entirely sure in the case of non prior service, but I'm using my asvab scores from 10 years ago without any problems. People retake the asvab all the time to qualify for jobs that they couldn't get when they initially enlisted all of the time, in fact most active duty posts have night classes specifically targeted at increasing asvab scores, although if your taking it after enlisting in I believe its called the afct.

In order to retake the ASVAB exam to attempt to get a better score you have to show an improvement in education.

Let's take me for example: I took my initial ASVAB during high school before graduating. Now i am in the Navy and i want to retake it. My high school diploma shows an improvment in education, so i can retake it.

The Army has an actual program for people looking to boost their ASVAB score. Every NCO, except one, in my first platoon had an ASVAB below 80, so they all rotated through the course to boost their scores. I don't know how much good it did them, but us (then) privates sure did get a hell of a lot of nap time while they were doing it!

Of course, this does you no good if you're not already in the Army. This seems to be a solid website, if only because it uses the word official in the URL! Anyways, yes, it looks like you can retake the ASVAB.

Your score is more than fine. There is no need to retake it.

I revived this thread. I'm not sure this question was fully answered, but is there a way current military can retake their ASVAB to get a higher score? Also, what is the process for current military to schedule for their flight physical? Can they just walk into the hospital and take it?
