CNN - Three dead in helicopter-small plane collision at Maryland airport

NBC - 3 Dead, 2 Injured in Mid-Air Collision Near Frederick Municipal Airport

3 killed in aircraft collision near Frederick airport cirrus (N122ES) and an R44 helicopter (N7518Q) collided

The Cirrus SR22’s parachute system did an excellent job in saving lives, the two aboard walked away with minor injuries. Unfortunately, rotating wings never do very well in mid-air collision.

I'm not too sure that image is appropriate Chris. I'm pretty sure I can make out a deceased individual in that wreckage.

RIP. Too sad

That looks like the Cirrus to me. All three victims were in the R-44. Plus that image is from one of the three news videos in the links.

Sad either way......

Well maybe when you have friends die in a helicopter crash Dnr032, we'll post thier bodies on the Internet for you to see. Then you tell us whether you think that's right or not.

Common courtesy and respect, pal.

Pilots who may see images of crashes like this weather or not they see bodies will definitely remember the image. It's an extremely effective learning tool like it or not.

I'm sorry that I have offended you, but I see a crashed Cirrus not an R-44. Plus it is the same image and video that was carried on several major news networks. It is an open source image.

You suggested to iChris that he should not have posted that image because you could "make out a deceased individual" in the wreckage. All the news stories reported that the 2 individuals in the Cirrus survived and the 3 victims in the crash were in the helicopter. I am fairly confident that there are no bodies in the photo posted above.

Plus, maybe you missed the point where I said, "Sad either way."

Hearing the helicopter pilot's voice right after impact goes way beyond the images. I used to have trouble staying on the carb heat when I was early into my training. But watching that Robinson Safety video of the British couple dropping out of the sky in their Mariner (presumably from failing to bring in carb heat and not using proper auto rotation technique) slapped me so hard that I now check it too often. The close up of the deceased pilot and part of his wife was brutal. I guess you could say that I learned a crucial lesson from his (presumed) mistake. Not sure what to take from this one - I already avoid high-traffic airports.

Ahhhh, now it becomes clear.......

The computer I was using was not showing the second image of the crashed R-44, only the image of the Cirrus. I just opened this thread with my iPad and I see the second image that you are talking about.....

Unfortunately that is the digital image age in which we all now live.

Sad and tragic.
