apacheguy
What ever happened to that schwoopy Italian cargo plane that was slated to replace the Sherpa? Did the Army take delivery of any of them or did the AF/congress screw that up too? Yeah we royally screwed that one up. http://www.stripes.com/news/us-funded-afghan-c-27s-scrapped-for-6-cents-per-pound-1.307578

Did the Army take delivery of any of them or did the AF/congress screw that up too?Are you referring to the C-27J? I was fortunate enough to have one come support a weeks worth of jump ops in AZ. This thing was amazing, by far the cleanest airframe I have ever been in, got to altitude extremely fast, and talking to the pilots they loved it. However they said the last 6 that were built flew right to the bone-yard, and they were loosing theirs with a few going to "special operations units" http://www.defenseindustrydaily.com/joint-cargo-aircraft-we-have-a-winner-03372/

USCav19D
I hate to see what happens when all you 64 guys show up to the selection and it's all 60s no 64s Then I'll work my ass off to be the best damn 60 pilot I can be. I'll still be flying.
Alpha Elite
I am currently flying the ever popular R44, however since my step son has a calling to have one of the most dangerous jobs in the Army it makes me want to fly Dustoff or Attack. Growing up i spent a great deal of time listening to stories from my father and Charles Sasser (close friend of my fathers). Through their stories i developed a desire to want to help people; to be the person to pluck those in needs from dangerous situations. I do beleive it is going to be 60's!
brackac
Tt makes me want to fly Dustoff or Attack. Growing up i spent a great deal of time listening to stories from my father and Charles Sasser (close friend of my fathers). Through their stories i developed a desire to want to help people; to be the person to pluck those in needs from dangerous situations. My Grandfather and Father both flew dustoff in Vietnam, and both were shot down multiple times, with my Grandfather being shot down 3x in a 24 hour period trying to pull wounded soldiers off the battlefield. With that said, the best advice my father gave me about what aircraft to fly was "Select the one that can shoot back, and do so with brutal results". So I did.
JarHead2RotorHead
I'd like to fly the 64, along with everyone and their mother, but I'd also slot for the 60 given the chance. My buddy is a Warrant pilot in Hawai'i and says that the 60M practically flies itself.

We have about 4 at F Bragg at the USASOC Flight Company and another handful at Yuma Proving Grounds for Military Freefall support. Both locations are commanded by 160th CW5s....47 guys no less.

Got my only 24,999' MSL jump out of it.

There are only two guys in my class that want -64s.
USCav19D
I wanted the aerial scout mission, but since the Kiowa is going away I'm hoping to take an Apache slot in a reconnaissance role. I'd love to make the jump over to the VFL program's scout bird when that time comes.

Got my only 24,999' MSL jump out of it.The recruiter I'm working with is a MFF qualified rigger, and worked on getting the Spartan certified for all kinds of jumps and drops. He had similar things to say about that aircraft, especially its rate of climb. Really is a shame the Air Force f*cked us out of that platform. apacheguy
Really is a shame the Air Force f*cked us out of that platform. It's actually part of the Air Force mission to F**K over the Army at every possible opportunity. Meanwhile the Sherpa's going away and we have no intra-theater lift capability, the 47 can only fly so fast.

As though the Army having a baby sized Hercules is going to put the Air Force outta business.
akscott60
Eh, who needs intre-theater airlift? I mean, besides us, in every conflict we fight in. Oh well, the Hooks will continue to fulfill the role the C27 would do faster and cheaper.
USCav19D
B... but... It's a a slippery slope! Before you know it we'll strap guns on it and turn it into a CAS platform. After that it's only a matter of time before the Army issues an RFP for a stealth fighter of their own, and reabsorbs the Air Force as a precursor to standing the USAAF back up. Mr. Congressman, we can not allow the army to have these aircraft!
