Lakota Timeline

Recommended Posts

Further update from this month's Defence Helicopter rag:

Some 12 Lakota helicopters have already been assigned to Fort Rucker, according to army officials, with conversion courses under way for current TH-67 instructor pilots. The base is expected to have a full complement of 187 UH-72s by FY2018, with instructors ready and trained to process around 1,000 students a year.

‘We expect that we will get to the point where we are capable of going through a programme of instruction from start to finish in the summer of 2015, and our first class is scheduled to begin in the first quarter of FY2016,’ explained Col John Lindsay, Director of Army Aviation in the service’s Operations, Plans and Policy arm.

1) Until it's fully integrated, it could go either way. You could be the VERY LAST class to fly the -67. You're really not going to know until you get down there.

2) You're not going to get it special (or not get it special) as a Lieutenant. The luck of the draw in how you class up is going to determine it. As far as I know, they don't load classes with all LTs. tl;dr: You'll get it as a class with the Warrants also in your class.

It would be nice to have an LUH rating.

I'm still torn. It was being strongly suggested that I was going out to our state's S&S/RAID, I was asked if I really wanted it (some guys don't want to go to the other side of the state), to which I said yes, and I was sort of awaiting official word, and the class date.

I ended up getting offered a fixed wing position instead, and accepted it. I'm excited, but disappointed. Why can't I do both?!

First of all, didn't know warrants and LT's went through together. I was under the impression that's the way it used to be done, but is no longer done that way. If you're telling me otherwise, that's cool too, either way I get to fly an Army Helicopter.

Second, I wasn't insinuating LT's should get special treatment, in fact if anything, I was expecting (and hoping) for LT's to train on them last.

But thanks for the insight.

It's not to bad... I hear the LUH won't start until next Oct and it will be a few year transition. So, some classes might get the 67 still and others the LUH. What does suck, there is a long bubble for Primary... 3-4 months.

I'll be 3 months away from CW2 when I finally leave here. I had a bubble for primary, BWS and I'm waiting for the -60A/M course.

Quick side question is the -60A course the same as the -60M course or do they split them up?

(especially for a NG unit which only has -60A)

The first 8ish weeks are the same, then the Ms split off back to the classroom for three weeks and then come back flying. Only had about 10-12 in my A/L class, all NG.
