D-sonn
I'm trying to find out how early I can show up to fort rucker and get housing. I know you cant sign in before 10 days before school. I want to take over 30 days leave but I would like to get a house asap. As of right now I'm going to be in the May WOCS if it isn't full otherwise it will be the one after that. I was selected in January. Also CIF when do we sign for gear. I didn't have to go to CIF here at benning because I'm a drill.
19DCAV_SCOUT
That's a good question. I am in the same situation except stationed at FT. Jackson. Hopefully we can sign for a house on post prior to signing in, unlike other posts.
D-sonn
are you a drill as well?
19DCAV_SCOUT
That I am! With getting selected I defiantly see the light at the end of the tunnel for drill duty
Yamer
Once you have your pcs orders you can get into housing. It's like paying rent to an apartment except it's a house. If you can afford the payment without your pay for a month then have at it!
D-sonn
Yeah I'm taking more leave to get off the trail early.
D-sonn
I'm confused what you mean by without your pay for a month. I understand that I lose bah if I live on post.
shainbourassa
I believe he is trying to say if you move in early you'll be paying out of pocket. I could be wrong tho.
D-sonn
I'll just call housing when I get my Rfo. Thanks. Anyone know about CIF?
Yamer
Oh, you're transferring already active? Then yes. Your pay will be continuous during your move but it will take a few weeks for your first rucker check to hit with the accurate bah amount. And you don't loose your bah living on post, you still get paid your bah rate. It just so happens that's the same amount corvias charges for married with kids housing. So monthly you'll have to take them a check or do auto withdrawal from your bank account. you get a normal paycheck with bah on it though. It's the same if you live off post, normal check, pay rent amount. Also, just recently with the bah rate drop, you're actually going to pay corvias 1245 a month for your married with kids house but you're only gonna get 1161 or something in bah... Welcome home! Lol
Yamer
And CIF will happen during inprocessing at wocs. They'll guide you. It's like going to basic again. Do it when they lead you there to do it.
D-sonn
Awesome thanks. So you have to pay out of pocket currently to live on post? Is that going to change? I've heard of them paying you some but not charging more then actually BAH.
Creep0321
Yea I haven't heard of on base housing charging more than BAH rates (except if you go crazy on utilities). However I did see Corvias advertising a 450$ rebate for taking housing in the older area a while back.
Yamer
If you live in Allen heights and are single it's less than your bah amount for rent. If you're in Bowden terrace with the rest of us family guys, it's 1245 currently. I'm locked in at the 2014 bah rate which is when I pcs here so I'm getting bah at 1245. You'll pcs here in 2015 at the 1161 rate or whatever it went down to so you'll pay more than bah to live in Bowden. As of now, corvias has said they are not lowering rates Trust me, you want the waiting list and to live in Bowden Edited January 29, 2015 by Yamer
D-sonn
that's unfortunate. But yeah I agree we wanted bowden from what we saw. I hope they don't stick to that. Guess we will wait and see.

If he moves in at a lower rate of BAH they will charge him that rate. For service members whose BAH would drop as a result of a new year, you are grandfathered in at your current rate. This protects those that live off post, the only time you would receive the new lower rate is if you changed posts then came back. They know you are grandfathered and will continue to charge you your full BAH.
01CelicaGTS
If you live in Bowden or Munson or even some parts of Allen it is your full BAH (as stated above, they can't charge more). Some parts of Allen, they will refund you some of your BAH (or charge you less than BAH, I'm not sure how it actually works). I have friends in each neighborhood (all of us married with kids) and it's full BAH. As soon as you have PCS orders they will let you sign for housing. If you can, try to get in Bowden Terrace or Munson Heights (the east side; the last couple of sections west are not updated and are the old duplex style). As far as CIF, don't worry about it. Your class will go there as a group after you class up. Edited February 1, 2015 by 01CelicaGTS

D-sonn
Question, I have an opportunity to go to airborne. Would I have a chance as a WO? The only thing I worry about is freak injuries that could derail my career before it starts. What does everyone think?
Creep0321
Airborne was the most un-eventful, boring school I have been too. Also there were alot of injuries, but I am also not one to turn down opportunities. I would say we had 15-20 people get droped for injuries. apacheguy
Definitely go to Airborne. You won't get another chance and it's a pretty easy school (I did the whole thing with a broken foot). Just keep your feet and knees together when you land and you'll be fine.
Creep0321
Its definitely easy, that is a fact.
