Last I heard, nobody over 22 is being admitted to West Point. That's a pretty big roadblock for all would-be cadets.

Anyways, I was curious... how many slots have been open for AH-64s lately?

It's possible to get an age waiver but yeah they want young 'uns for USMA. That's probably why we have 3 other commissioning sources you can pursue not to mention all the stuff the national guard can do.

Lead, Follow, or get out of my way! Warrants will never be platoon leaders, they will never be executive officers, they will never be company commanders. Warrants are advisors to commanders and decision-makers. That is what you signed up for. You could have gone through OCS or ROTC, but you didn't. All you can do is be an asset to your unit and (as corney as it is) "be all you can be."

I better tell my current executive officer (a CW3) that he is not eligible. I better tell both of the platoon leaders (both CW3's) that they are not eligible. In fact, I better look in the mirror and tell myself that I am not eligible to hold my position. I should probably also shred all of those counseling statements that I have signed on 2LTs, 1LTs, and even CPTs.

Warrant officers all around the Army are serving as leaders, often over RLOs. I counsel RLOs and when they mess up they report in to me.

Warrant officers are not just advisors. We are leaders all throughout the Army and receive the same commission as RLOs. That being said, I have no desire to be a RLO. Nobody is better, your job and career paths are simply different (normally).

You know, you'd think so... Back in 2010 I actually talked to Maj. Easley. He said there are no waivers, and you'd have to be no older than 22 by the time classes start.

Please learn how to use google...

Are there age waivers?
Yes, but only for five Solider per year who had previously been unable to apply to West Point or complete their application to West Point due to a deployment in support of the Global War on Terror. The waiver, if approved, can allow for Soldiers to be up to the age of 25 on July 1st of the year entering West Point. For all other Soldier candidates who do not meet this strict waiver criteria, you cannot be older than 22 years of age on July 1st of the year entering West Point (21 on July 1 of the year entering the Prep School).

Coincidentally, a point paper was just released by CW5 Williams, the Army's Command Chief Warrant Officer entitled "WO2025." believe it or not, we have WO equivalent representation parallel to the Chief of Staff and CSM of the Army.

Anyway, WO2025 lays out specific professional development requirements and proposals for WOs, to make our career path and education more in line with RLOs...for the purpose of "assuming command and leadership duties ever envisioned by the traditional Warrant officer Corps".

It's not standard doctrine yet, but the Army is slowly discovering that they can conveniently fill field grade officer positions with WOs and save a third of the money. I'm surprised it took them this long.

For what it's worth, I've been a Platoon Leader, and XO, and even a fill in company commander, so it's not unheard of.

I can taste the salt from here. I'd be happy to forward you the email from Maj Easley from 5 years ago. It is entirely possible that they added waivers in the time since then.

Do whatever you need to do buddy. I'm just trying to stop you from posting bad info.

Sigh. Formations. I do those twice a year, Change of Responsibility and Change of Command.

I did change of responsibility yesterday and we have change of command tomorrow, haha
