Sure wasn't bad info when I was looking into it.

Neat idea; always cling to what was true in the past even if it's not true now.

"I dunno why the engine's not running now that we're up in the air, it was working fine on the ground..." That'll get you far in this branch.

You must be hanging out with shindig too much to think this is acceptable behavior towards a senior WO as a candidate....

I understand well the concept of respect, especially for those in senior positions. During my time as both a junior enlisted and as an NCO I have worked closely with both senior NCOs and field grade officers, having done a fair share of TOC operations as a lowly private and as my SCO's PSO during our vacation to Afghanistan. I've had had to deal with everything from a drunk 1SG who sh*t-talked a O3 and punched out an E3 to a toxic O5 that would scream his lungs out at the battle captain if he didn't have hazelnut coffeemate ready in the morning (even if the entire FOB was out).

I'm keenly aware of the concept of "shut up and color".

Here's the thing about writing on an internet board like this: it's easy to take a message out of context. There's no accounting for tone of voice which makes attitude awfully hard to ascertain. Where he might think that I'm clinging to some ancient information and defending it to my last breath, the truth is I'm rather apathetic about USMA admissions and just threw out the last thing I heard. If I'm wrong, and clearly I am, then so be it. I'll take being a WO1 in aviation over being a 2LT just about any day of the week. Either way, I'm not being argumentative, I'm just trying to hold a conversation.

I also know that being a WO is drastically different from the tasks and duties of an NCO, and I eagerly look forward to proving myself once again in a new community. Apacheguy has, in the past, answered several of my questions and been helpful. I know that virtually everyone here, save the applicants, know more about flying for the Army than I do, and I look forward to soaking up every bit of knowledge I can.

Lead, Follow, or get out of my way! Warrants will never be platoon leaders, they will never be executive officers, they will never be company commanders. Warrants are advisors to commanders and decision-makers. That is what you signed up for. You could have gone through OCS or ROTC, but you didn't. All you can do is be an asset to your unit and (as corney as it is) "be all you can be."

Update on this, there are actually 5 aviation detachments in the Army commanded by CW4/5s. One of them being the 2nd Aviation Support Co at the USMA, and a few others within various corners of USASOC.

Mike-

Are you including the (TDA?) OSA DETs in that? If so, is that the new number, based on the conversion to MTOE? From what I understand, part of the conversion is that the commander position is changing to commissioned. Should be interesting, considering we HAVE no COs in our det. Which I guess is unimportant at the moment, as we weren't part of the conversion....
