That's an ignorant statement.

Are you a 30 year 64 pilot? or you a four year 60 pilot who HATES your life?

You wouldn't be happy flying a DAP or AH-6s for 160th?

Flying eight ship, NVG, air assaults, even in a lowly airframe where I don't have a trigger is fukn awesome every time I do it. Every time.

Come on, there is no bad airframe.

C12 sounds terribly boring to me now, but in 10 years? who knows.

10 years ago, I would have bet you that I'd cut off my manhood before I'd leave the Marines for the Army, but now, I wish I had left sooner.

I hear ya there. Who knows, maybe I'd change my mind if I don't get my first pick. Nothing against any other airframe, I just want that particular mission at this point in my life. It's got nothing to do with the aircraft itself and everything to with my aptitudes and experience. I know how ground guys think, move, and fight, and I'd love to be directly involved with supporting them in an attack/recon capacity. But if it doesn't work out, I'll be the best damn Aviator I can be and see what the future holds.

There's a couple of reasons. First, there's not a whole lot of them comparably speaking. There's a lot more 60s and 47s.

2nd They are transitioning a lot of 58 pilots to 47s.

3rd they aren't really that under manned.

If you want to be a 47 guy your chances are better just assessing for the 160th lots of 47s here.

Out of curiosity, does SOAR prefer their pilots to come from any specific airframe? Would 60 and 47 pilots be preferred over 64s, or does it all come down to the qualifications of the pilot himself?

I know I'm putting the cart before the horse on this one, but it's my sincere hope to assess into SOAR IR possible, and I definitely blues in long term planning.

I think I would have selected guns along with my two best buddies that were active duty (all us prior infantry NCOs), but the guard chose 60s for me and i havent looked back.

I've flown 187 hours in the last 12 months: stateside air assaults, SFUAC, firefighting, and VIP, and have now scored a 47F AQC date.

I have zero complaints at the end of the day.

Living the dream.

...160th is always tempting though. Not sure if it fits with coaching soccer and being a Boy Scout leader with the fire team Ive grown at home.

I'm not going to speak on behalf of the recruiting team for the regiment.

I will say, when you go through an assessment your current airframe weighs little.

Does airframe experience help? Sure, but not all 60 pilots get selected to assess MH60s not all 60 pilots want 60s . Same for 47s.

Difference with 47s is the F model is already CAAS so there's less of a transition then for 60s.

Good to know, thanks for the info. I was worried that if I selected 64s when my time comes, it'd hurt my chances. Glad to know that's not necessarily the case.

I would have snagged the C-12 too.

I can't help but laugh at this convo. Being a civi on the outside.....hearing soldier pilots complain or frustrate about ANYthing is just....so...I don't know. Weird. I'm scraping my eyeballs out hoping to get passed Bat board. I'm sure it will be different should I get in but, he he, I can't help but be like "Go for fixed wing!!!! PLEASE!! MORE EMPTY SEATS FOR MEEEEEEEE!!!!!" :D Couldn't resist. I LOVE helicopters and if I get the chance to fly a frickin blackhawk, apache, chinook, anything that spins and floats, I'll be one happy soldier!

That's basically what I told the BN board president when he asked if I understood that I might not get to fly my dream ride: "Sir, as long as it says United States Army on it, and it goes up and down, I'd be happy and honored to fly it!" Got a good chuckle out of the board.

Naturally, I have my preference - but they've been in the process of retiring it for a little while now.
