Selection today

Recommended Posts

Same guy. He basically forced his way into the 64 course, screwing the next selection out of a 64 slot, and whined and cried because he felt like being prior UAV enlisted makes him qualified to fly 64s more than 60s.

I didn't know he was top of his class though. He's kind of retarded so that's shocking to me.

UAV representing well. *sigh*

he wasn't #1 he was like top 5. 2nd guy took the Apache. That dude cried and got the 64. That was my selection.

Man I hope when and if I get picked up I get apaches, since I'm an Apache mechanic now..would be badass to stay in the same community.

It's helped me with systems and airframe knowledge. But that's where it ends. It's almost a completely different world from the pilot aspect.

It is badass though, you nailed it.

It would be amazing if he failed the bag

Yeah I would be happy flying anything, just happier in an Apache lol

C-12's don't do air assaults so why would you want to fly one?

- C-12's equals long paved runways;

- Long paved runways equals fixed facilities;

- Fixed facilities equals hot showers and flush toilets;

- Hot showers and flush toilets equals happier deployment.

That was always my thoughts...... but I never got there..... UH-1's and then UH-60's....

Terrible reputation to start your career with

No kidding. Some people feel like the Army owes them something. I always thought it was simple, what you give is what you get. I guess that's just not for everyone.

Is this not fairly similar for helicopters? Need a place to refuel/rearm etc.

Uh...... No.

Helicopters don't need fixed facilities. As an Army Aviator you will not be on the front lines, but you will certainly be close enough to the front to support the fight. Tents, cots and unit made shower points will be your best friends.... Experiences will vary by unit.

FARP = Forward Arming and Refueling Point. No fixed facility required. It can be moved around the AO (Area of Operation) as required.

Yeah it would have been awesome if I would have gotten 47's because I would only have to freshen up on systems. I wanted 64 though, and luckily got it. Sadly there isn't anything from my past life that really helps though. I wouldn't change it for anything though!

Just had our selection brief today and there are several new duty stations for 60Ms. They are: Ft Polk, Ft Irwin, Yakima, Benning, and Rucker. We then went to a brief with the HRC lady who gives us our assignments and she told us these are going to become permanent duty stations (TDA). Some if not all of these are currently 72 units that will allbe going to 60M. It will be the medevac mission. The benefit to it is that since in essence they are brand new, you will not be competing with anyone for progression and will progress immediately. The flight time will be there. It is part of the Aviation Restructuring Initiative. I am curious as to your thoughts (current Army Aviators). I am considering Yakima in addition to two "normal" duty stations (JBLM and Hawaii). Currently Campbell, Germany, and Honduras are all not available (for 60Ms).

Have you seen the series of videos by Center for International Studies RE: Restructuring Army Aviation?https://youtu.be/w_QGblbVQYo

Seems to have a lot of good info RE: the next generation of Army Aviation (post sequester).

After we "set up shop" such as in OIF / OEF, yes, quality of life is similar. You live on airfields and have the same facilities as the FW guys.

The first stages of war you're constantly on the move. Guys were living in the aircraft / tents for the first few weeks. The FW guys were living at established airfields located just outside the AO.

You should train to live in a tactitical assembly area for weeks at a time. That's living in a tent in the middle of the woods on some restricted area. It's like a mini town with ATC, FARP, maintenance facilities, chow hall, etc, etc. Back in the day we used to strap MILES gear to the aircraft and get shot at. I think those events (ASET IV) are pretty rare these days.

Ah I'm guessing you've never gotten a U?

Don't worry though if he fails they'll just send him over to 60s they always do. ;)

No, before I started I set my own personal goal of not getting a single U in all of flight school and to not have a PL. so far so good, I've stayed a good distance in front of the U train and been REALLY lucky to not have any PLs...

Don't worry I've had enough PLs and U's to cover us both.

Eh, it'll probably happen, and it's not a big deal (the taco).

I got my only one right before my first Hawk check ride. Forgot to close out the fuel check, I think. (Maybe I didn't start it in time...). But, it was P3, so a U in that was a U for the day, too. FUN!

Significant emotional events are a good teaching tool. :) It for damn sure made me not forget a few days later on my check ride.

It was the equivalent of Dad saying "I'm not mad...I'm just disappointed".
