Tradewinds
Lol, my buddy threw in the towel and went to Cyber Warfare instead of re-classing to 64 or 47. Oh well, his loss. I think I took the better road personally anyways. Haha. Not uncommon given the fact that they are predicting about a 25% selection rate for transition for RLOs on the next board in March. My son is going to the Civil Affairs Selection Course in April as a back up so he won't be part of the March board, if he is not selected then it's off to the AV Career Course and hope for a transition there. His last flight in the 58 was back in October. A few of his Warrants that transitioned to the 47 are not quite excited about it right now. I think the line was "Geez we just fly in a straight line", I'm sure they will grow to enjoy the mission.
rrhoads17
Why do they keep putting C12's up, I thought those were reserved for seasoned pilots?

Branch Transfer through the VTIP board is even more competitive but for RLOs who are not a core AV and transfer over kinda get stuck in a constrained professional timeline. 18-24 months spent between AV CCC and flight school, all as a CPT, then trying to get Company Command in while competing against core aviators all before the BZ or PZ look for MAJ. I said eff that... plus I don't want to spend the rest of my time as a staff officer waiting for command and what not.
Velocity173
Why do they keep putting C12's up, I thought those were reserved for seasoned pilots?Unless they changed the policy yet again, they don't do FW boards anymore and draw only from flight school. That's a lot of slots that have to be filled annually.
Joe_P148
Why do they keep putting C12's up, I thought those were reserved for seasoned pilots?Like velocity said, the fixed wing boards are over. The Army wants brand new aviators flying fixed wing. The CW4 promotion board last board picked up 8% of CW3S to 4. Acoording to the Army the fixed Wong community is too top heavy so the stradegy is cut from the top, add to the bottom. The other reason is Army fixed wing op tempo is very high. You don't hear about their deployments because they are small enough to keep it quiet. They are flying back to back deployments logging 120 hours plus a month. So, they need extra asses to fill the seats, hence the WO1 increase.
rrhoads17
So would you expect the number of C12 slots to go up or down over the next couple of years? Then again, I know selection is totally random.

Creep0321
Is it possible to switch from FW to a helo after a few years or are you stuck? From what they are putting out to us now is once you go through the c-12 course you won't touch another Army helicopter. Velocity173
Why do you hate me?Why join the Army to fly an airplane? There's a reason why there aren't books titled "FL250 with a general on board" or "Race Tracks Over Korea." There are however "Centuar Flights", "Apache Sunrise" and of course "Chicken Hawk." Some people come in as FW pilots, and would like to continue doing so (but don't mind the RW, either.) My class had two guys that would have killed to select C-12s, but the ones they had went to LTs.
