Little Bird
A few years ago when I was a passenger up in the se, I saw some of the pilots were wearing crampons for the glacier landings. They seemed to be pretty minimal, not the huge things you'd wear for ice climbing, but pretty effective. Does anyone know what product they are and are they recommended? Thanks
500F
Check out Yak Tracks. They slip over shoes and give pretty good ice traction.
HawaiiCFII
Watch out for cheap solutions for walking on ice. The rubber breaks and you can get stuck. If you are the pilot and will be walking around away from the aircraft you want to make sure you have decent gear. Crampons aren't expensive but you will need a boot that has at least a 3/4 shank or eventually your foot will pop out. The shank is a flat metal strip below your foot that runs the length of the boot. I have had a 3/4 shank boot pop out of a strap-on crampon but using proper technique and tight straps will keep it on. You can also get hurt wearing crampons. If you go the cheap route, carry nylon tie-straps with you.
