Flight Hours. What's the real deal?

Recommended Posts

Some people hover in 15 hours, some people hover in 15 minutes. Yay for video games! B)

I hear what you are saying. I suppose I'm just surprised because I would think a Helo PPL would give people more confidence in your ability to succeed in flight school than say a SIFT. In the Air Force, they won't even look at you unless you have a PPL. What am I missing here?

Tell that to the guy in my class who bragged the whole time about his ratings, and then failed his first check ride. He made it through, but it didn't help him.

I have a guy that was in my wocs class bragging about all his UAV time and quals and stuff. Needless to say anyone that's ever met him along the way hates him...

He probably went to Embry Riddle

Don't know, but it's neither here nor there. It was his attitude that caused the issues, not where he got his ratings. An attitude like "I already have a rating, so I don't really need to study". Not a good one to have.

This site is awesome...I am AD Air Force in an admin job and so far army recruiters (with the exception of the warrant I'm now working with) have been pretty rude to me when I tell them over the phone I am interested WOFT...I kept being told I have no chance because I have no flight hours and because in AD USAF in a 'noner' AFSC. I have an associate degree and will have my bachelor's on monday (hopefully ;) ). This thread, and the rest of the site has been a wealth spring of information and a huge encouragement! Thanks to those who contribute and I hope to contribute more in the future to pay it forward.

Being a Marine pilot I cant speak to your board process specifically, however I'm sure they are just like ours and could care less if you had no flight experience or where a cfi. I saw folks who never touched the controls rock flight school and I saw airline pilots fail out. Flight school, for what ever branch, is not the end game getting a combat aircraft is and by the time you get to that point the time you put into your PPL wont really apply as you will either be landing in a shitty zone or putting rounds down range from the air. Its really just a different animal.

Whatever happened to just picking people based on their merits, and whatever color/gender they happen to be, so be it.

Product of the culture, political climate, and media/social media. Social conditioning through constant whining. We are currently passed the event horizon and getting crushed as we approach G = infinity + 1.
