avbug
A friend just picked up the single visor version this last month, and was quite pleased. His personal headset is an A20, and he wanted the same in a helmet. He used his gentex x-liner. I tried it on and found it quite comfortable, but didn't take it for a flight. The helmet appeared well designed, and used metal fittings instead of the gallet plastic ones. The helmet is also designed to be a lot less likely to snag on anything; even the comm exit from the helmet is nicely streamlined. By comparison, it makes the mess of leads sticking out the back of my gentex look archaic. His helmet ran nearly three thousand. (twenty eight hundred and change, I think). You'd have to decide if it's worth it to you. The bose electronics are the best made, and they do reduce fatigue and are considerably more comfortable than anything else, especially for long term wear. My helmet didn't cost that much, but it's not nearly so comfortable. I might consider one, but I'll see how his holds up, first.
fleman202
I ordered one with the Bose system. After reading a lot of positive reviews on it decided to drop the money. Ill let you know how I like it when it comes in.
Jbd
I have a Gallet helmet and Bose A20 headset. I've always wanted to combine the two. I was curious the Evo was just a cheap knockoff. But so far I've heard nothing but good things. It might be time to sell the Gallet and upgrade.
avbug
The EVO actually has two shells; an inner kevlar and an outer fiberglass, with the foam shell between them; it would appear to me to give additional protection, especially penetration protection; I would surmise that it would offer significant blunt trauma impact, and would also offer very good protection against objects which might penetrate the outer shell (could be something as simple as a metal corner). It's not bulletproof. The company from whom my friend bought his helmet is Helicopter Helmets.com. He was told at the time he placed his order that the company is working on a retrofit for the A20 headset into the Gentex helmets, and expected to be able to offer that upgrade in several months. I don't have any details on that, but that's what he was told.
