Won2Be
I've been going through all the FAQs and sample packet etc on the USAREC website. Alot of the forms seem to be prior service specific. Anybody know if the LORs (specifically from civilian sources) are expected to be on Form 3.3? or if the "optional" (optional...pfffft yeah right!) resume is supposed to be on form 3.2? Or can these be standard word docs for civilians? And I see the FAQ lists the photo as 3/4 length and the Enlistment Program Procedures (civilian spec) lists the photo as full length. Anybody have any guidance? I emailed the recruiting team contact email listed in the contact page but have yet to hear back. Thanks anyone. BM1
Full length photo in a suit. I initially got my photo at an army da photo lab in my dress blues as per the usarec website. Them had to get a da style photo in a suit at target.....then had to return for a full length photo. Despite the options listed, even on the recruiters own paperwork, there was only one acceptable way in the end for me.
Won2Be
Ok. so sounds like we default to the Enlistment Program Procedures page for the photo. So that makes me think a word doc for the resume and LOR from civilians is acceptable?
BM1
Resume for me was on the army form( cant remember the number). LORs were a combination depending on service and if active or retired. Only my CWO4 LOR was on the army form.
Won2Be
Thanks BM1. So it sounds like the form expectations (particularly for the LORs) are not as strict as the website example makes it sound. Really want to dot the "i"s and cross the "t"s on this one... firepilot42
Most of my LOR's were on company letterheads just like applying for a civilian job. I had one from my chief pilot where I used to work (also a Nat'l Guard 1LT) who just typed it out without any letterhead. As far as the picture goes, I wore a suit and my wife took them in my living room.
Won2Be
firepilot42: cool! Thanks. The website is confusing. It makes it sounds extremely specific but, at the same time, guidance is not consistent....
BM1
You will find lots of inconsistencies if your applying from the civilian side. I was sure my paperwork was not going to be board ready based on things I saw on the usarec website that my recruiters said did not apply to me. In the end they were correct.

It needs to be civilian attire? I thought it would help to be all decked out in the photo... I'm not there yet, just something I was wondering about since you mentioned it. BM1
Yup, it was suit only. That could change between recruiting battalions but mine there were no exceptions. Id take both and try to get the one in uniform in and if they decide otherwise your ready to go, not rushing last minute like me.
USCav19D
I applied for active duty while in the National Guard, and did it through the WOFT enlistment program. Was selected this May. I sent in a 8.5x11" DA photo in my ASUs. I would suggest wearing your uniform.
Won2Be
So, has anyone put in a resume on a word doc or is it normal for civilians to use the army form?

01CelicaGTS
I also used a Word Doc. In fact, I didn't use any Army forms at all (except one of my LORs, that was from an Army Captain; he used Army letterhead). As far as I could tell, they know you're a civilian, and didn't expect any Army forms to be used.
USCav19D
Couldn't hurt to use the Army forms, though. Every little bit counts.

Won2Be
Does anyone know if the hand written essay needs to be signed or not? My recruiter stated it did but I'm unsure. and if so, how exactly? at the bottom? top? with my name printed next to it? anyone know?
Tesla
Must be signed on the bottom, just after you are done with the main essay portion.
Won2Be
Must be signed on the bottom, just after you are done with the main essay portion. Thanks! Really wish the regs were more specific. no specifics to worry about? just, like, right after the end of the essay text? cause I set it up to fill up the entire page exactly. I'd have to sign on the same line of the final line of text. Should that be acceptable? Thanks again.

This has been driving me crazy. In the end, if it gets kicked back, it gets kicked back. If it gets through, it gets through. I'm actually trying to force myself not to keep checking the USAREC site because of the WOFT inconsistencies.
MckeeC
Yes sign both essays! Had my battalion board meeting yesterday and my recruiter got yelled at for not knowing to have me sign them.

Gotta hand it to whoever setup this program. they certainly didn't make it simple to apply.
rakkasanvet
Wonder why the acceptance rate for civilians is so much higher than for active duty applicants? Could it be that the board understands the determination and patience required to put together a civilian packet?

Could it be that the board understands the determination and patience required to put together a civilian packet? I was under the impression it's about a 40/60 split for seats, that being the civilians get the 40%. While civilians only get 40% of the seats, there are a lot less people vying for them as opposed to the people who are AD applying for the other 60% of seats.
