Army Fixed Wing

Recommended Posts

With answers like that, you should be the chief-moderator of these forrums.

Clearly they have more than one fixed-wing aircraft. But I highly doubt they are using these pieces of sh*t. I am sure that the C-12 DH-7 UC-35 are all doing a lot of work, but I would bet strong money that the Army doesen't use all aircraft in that list.

Your ignorance and bad attitude was yours to display. A simple "Does the Army really fly all the planes listed in the wiki?" would have shown humility and true willingness to learn.

Right, because the word "doubt" here, means that I know exactly what I'm talking about.

Maybe I should try to find a military aviation forrum, and ask questions about this type of stuff before giving lectures on the subject. That was my bad..

When you grow up, maybe you'll learn that "I highly doubt..." translates to most people to "you have no idea what you're talking about", especially when it's surrounded by the rest of what you wrote. "Really? I didn't know the Army flew those" or something similar would go over much better.

Even though most are divested... CASA 212's

Cessna 182's

Grob G 120TP

T-6C's

Also an RFI out for 92 brand new FUA. Leaning Dash-8 and 350 at this point. (at least heavily worded for them)

As mentioned Lear 35's

In addition to still flying everything on that list.

They get rid of the T-34s for T-6s?

The T-34s will give way to the T-6Bs this summer. We only have them at Huntsville and at the Airborne Special Operations Test Directorate at Ft Bragg.

Yeah, my friend (XP/160th) used to fly the one at Huntsville. He actually delivered a Navy one to the Beechcraft Museum.

Used to have a T-34 at Cairns that the XPs used as well. Guess it's no longer there.

Forgive the ignorance, but what is an XP?

Experimental Test Pilot. Not to be confused with Maintenance Test Pilot. One spends a year in a demanding school pushing the limits of aircraft. The other has the arduous task of trying to keep 8 aircraft FMC.

XPs generally spend their time after Navy Test Pilot School at Huntsville but you will get a few assigned to line units every now and then. They're an excellent source of graduate level aerodynamics and engineering knowledge. We had one (MAJ) assigned to us in Afghanistan. While I was the PC and had probably twice his hours, he knew more about what keeps that aircraft airborne than I could imagine. I respected him immensely.

Oh, got it. Sounds like a hell of a job, and a hell of a resource.

I didn't know that the Army had single seat turboprops. I suppose that makes a hell of a lot more sense than throwing someone with no fixed wing experience in the cockpit of a Gulfstream! Now, if only we could strap a few rocket pods and a machine gun to that sucker...

T-6s and T-34s are two seaters but I suppose they fly it single pilot from time to time.

I don't understand what you're saying here?

Not going to happen since we don't use them for that role, although it would be pretty cool to match our sister services with one type of trainer. One will not come out of the current FWMEQC with 10hrs of C-12 time to go straight to G-IVs. It would be a cool gig as the T-6 looks pretty fun.

With the exception of the Test Directorate at Ft Bragg, XPs are the only aviators flying the T-34s/T-6s. We did use to have a Pilatus Porter at the USASOC Flight Company until somebody ground looped it, and we got C-27s.

I've also seen an Army owned Cessna Caravan at Yuma Priving Grounds.

We left a few of those in Iraq actually, they had hellfire racks under the wings. I sometimes wonder if they're still being flown or if they've launched any missiles on ISIS targets.

So, I'll just go ahead and wrap up this entire thread for everyone.

And if you aren't quite satisfied with that, you better watch out, because THIS guy will have a serious beef with you!

Did you go in and edit it? Because the ones that are listed there are pretty accurate to my knowledge.

And I just want to let you know CharyouTree, that if the list on wikipedia seems to be "pretty accurate" to YOUR knowledge, well than thats good enough for me!!

"Pretty accurate to my knowledge." Thank you for your contribution.
