Army Fixed Wing

Recommended Posts

So, I'll just go ahead and wrap up this entire thread for everyone.

And if you aren't quite satisfied with that, you better watch out, because THIS guy will have a serious beef with you!

And I just want to let you know CharyouTree, that if the list on wikipedia seems to be "pretty accurate" to YOUR knowledge, well than thats good enough for me!!

"Pretty accurate to my knowledge." Thank you for your contribution.

You're cute. Are you Shindig's alt account?

How about: "I won't claim to know everything Army fixed wing. But nothing on that list doesn't readily belong, and I don't see anything missing. i.e. I don't see U-21, or OV-1 or anything of the sort. I also don't see a lack of DHC-7, UC-35, or C-12 (Though I guess technically the MC-12 isn't on there; I'm not certain if the Army is just operating USAF aircraft in that case, which you could argue would preclude them from the list of 'Army Aircraft'.) I also see that the aircraft flown in the FWMEQC (with the exception of the C-12) are not listed, but as those are technically owned by Flight Safety International, I don't see why those would be included either." ?

Is that a better answer? I know it's no great contribution like "I doubt they are using these pieces of sh*t", but I do what I can. I've only been in Aviation for a little while, and I'm still learning; I hope you'll give me a break.

Much better.. Thank you, Sir. :D

STG,

You sound like a real peach to hang out with.

Lol. So clearly I came across as an a-hole to a lot of you.

In the future I'll think more about how I am coming across when writing messages in forrums. I suppose I wasn't satisfied with the wikipedia link, and I should have responded in a better way.

I appreciate this website very much, and all who are a part of it, and I apologize for coming across as a dick. It was not my intention, and I'm actually a super nice guy! @ Charyou, I do apologize.

Go Army :D

So what do the army XP's do with the 4 T6's? Doesn't seem like it would be a very good platform to test anything for any of their other fixed or rotary wings. Since the XPs already have fixed wing and jet ratings, they wouldn't be used for transitions. Do the XPs use them in a training role or R&D or? Anyone know or have any ideas?

Im sure they use them as chase planes, along with whatever else they want to do with them. They are XPs. And a T6 is cheaper to operate than any helicopter we use in the Army, so good for them.

The XPs don't have "jet ratings." They go through the FW course and get some jet rides (F-18 / T-38) at TPS but that's it.

As Ascott said, they use the T-6 primarily for chase duties at Redstone.

We were dropping off an aircraft and we just got to poke around for a while.

Had orange and white TUH(?)-72s up there a year ago.

The USAF had Mi-8s/17s with "N" markings and not "USAF" markings there too. Less inconspicuous in Africa and whatnot that a DAP or MH-47s.

The military is awesome.

Is there any way for mil to get a tour at Redstone?

Don't think they run any official tours but you'd have no problem looking around there. It's like any other airfield. Years ago they had an aero club there to rent aircraft.

They really don't have much to look at in the way of test aircraft. PAX River has most of that stuff.

The Army flies a variety of multi engine turboprop and turbo jet aircraft. None are particularly sexy.

Yes....all those and more than several "specialty" air frames that no one really knows about until you luck out and get sent/stumble into a unit with one or a few of them......followed by an (sometimes CIVILIAN) aircraft type/transition school. And some of them are VERY SEXY if you happen to get, like all wet/erect over airplanes.
