APFT: 281

EDUCATION: B.A. in History, University of California Santa Cruz

FLIGHT: None

CLASS 1 PHYSICAL: Completed (Got the stamp back from Ft. Rucker the day after the physical at Camp Humphreys, Korea)

LORS: Company CC O-2 (EOD), Batt CC 0-6 (RC- 135 Navigator), WO3, and an Army Corps of Engineers MJR I worked side by side with.

I'm active duty Air Force getting a second look. I didn't get selected the first go round, and I mostly blame myself. I feel like my resume wasn't all that great and in turn might have been my downfall. I will hit my 3 year TIS mark This month, and also recently got selected to promote to SSgt (E-5 in the Air Force). It was that quick because I came in as E-3 and was promoted below the zone to e-4. I'm currently stationed in England, this is my third base in what's about to be 3 years (Mountain Home, Idaho - Osan, Korea were the other two). I know to some this might sound surreal, but it's true. Hopefully this time around I get the nod. I feel like I made the necessary changes and updates to my package, and I also listed my most recent accomplishments. As boards like this usually go, one can never be sure what exactly it is they look for. Any tips will be gladly taken. Thanks!

FQ-NS for the May board going for my second look. Not being selected was a small blow to my confidence (and ego), but if I go down, i'm going down swinging. Added an LOR from a CW5 and finished my second A.S. degree. Good luck to everyone.

P.S.

Oh and if I go down i'm taking all off you with me! lol

For what its worth, which is jack sh*t, I don't know how/why you weren't picked up considering I was. I had a 254 PFT, but have like 70 hours flight times and 3.06 GPA in PoliSci. I'm also only an E4 in for 3 years. I think with the CWO's LOR, you'll be in for sure, I had a CW4 who wrote a really good one, which I think helped.

I have been working on my selection board package for almost two years now. The last 6 months have been nothing but hurry up and wait. I missed the May Board due to recruiter error forgetting to set up the Battalion Commander interview prior the 3 person board interview (no hard feelings what-so-ever). Then I missed the July Board due to it being cancelled. Now it's September Board time! Feels like Christmas or Halloween! But better ;) Best of luck to everyone!

I appreciate the encouragement. I agree, I think I should have pushed harder for a CW5s LOR for the May board but the past is the past.

Great attitude to have, Chrish1440. I'm rooting for you and everyone on this upcoming selection board! Hope we all end up working and flying together in the near future!

I got selected on the September board in 2013. It's a lucky month. Good luck!

Do you remember how many people were in your board and the percent selected? Just curious.

I don't remember the numbers exactly but September being the last board of the fiscal year has always had higher selection numbers, at least for active duty. I looked back 5 years (long day at MEPS) and the trends were similar every year.

So I have my packet all completed. Had my battalion board interview last week and that went well but now I think I have a problem. My recruiter told me I couldn't do the flight physical before I passed the battalion board because the Army wasn't gonna pay for people to do it if they didn't pass the interview. I was almost positive this was wrong but he insisted. He said it shouldn't be an issue getting my physical in right after the board anyway.

So I got to the place where the board interview took place and talked to the other two guys who were there from other recruiting stations and of course they both did their flight physicals. So now I'm frustrated because now I feel like we're going to be rushing to get it done before the September USAREC Board.

Today he tells me he couldn't get it scheduled until October so now it sounds like I'm out of luck for the September board which is super frustrating. I started this process May of 2014 and it's going to be November of 2015 before I'm going to get looked at. I know it's only a little over two months but it's so frustrating when I had all this time to get the physical done and was told I couldn't.

Well.... FQ-NS in the may board for me...

Age: 28

TIS: 8.5 years AD USAF

Sift: 63

AFPT: 287

Lor: 03, 05, 05, cw4, cw5(added for this board)

Waiver: moral approved in April

I'm an active duty Air Force JTAC, 3x afghan deployments , airborne, ranger, Jtac-instructor, associates degree, personal trainer certs, just got selected for promotion to e6...

Anyhow, my moral waiver didn't get approved until 2 weeks before the May board so I'm hopping it was just a numbers game and that mine was read to late... Regardless I got an awesome LOR from an Apache/strength manager cw5 for this board.

And lastly, I've been working on a sweet aviator stache in hopes that if I look the part they'll give it to me... #stachetember Wish me luck brothers!

McKeeC,

I'm being told the same thing. Basically, the battalion board decides whether or not you get to go to WOCS, and then Rucker decides if you get to fly helicopters. I called Ft. Irwin (I'm in california) about scheduling a flight physical, and they told me civilians can absolutely do their physicals without the help of their recruiter. Just call them, tell them you're a future soldier and need a flight physical, they create a temporary account for you, and then you go do it. You just need to figure out how to get on base. I told my recruiter this, and she told me not to do it, to wait until after the battalion board. I'm tempted to just do it anyways, because frankly, she hasn't known anything from day one. Note: I'm also prior service Army, so I have trouble waiting for my recruiter to do things I know how to do myself.

Either way, we'll all get in if we're meant to. If not, at least I already have a job.

Rakk, is it possible that you can find another recruiter to help you out? As far as I know, you can do almost everything by yourself, besides the paperwork the recruiter needs to make. I ended up doing my flight physical two months prior to my board.

You might as well knock it out yourself.

Just go do it yourself. Your recruiter is feeding you bullshit.

My wife and I was talking the other day, her senior year of high school she had to write the White House a letter and ended up getting a response back. I think someone should send a request to the White House for a LOR and see if you can manage to get one.
