Never berate it, trash it, or destroy it. Be enthusiastic, yet stay real. Dont lie or embelish, and most of all dont hold back the true details when they ask. Pohi Posted July 16, 2015 Report Share Posted July 16, 2015 I didn't do any marketing to get people in the door, the owner of the school did that stuff. As far as keeping students and maintaining confidence and morale of students, like spike said... that's covered in CFI training. BH206L3 Posted July 25, 2015 Report Share Posted July 25, 2015 Well I been in the profession both fixed and rotor wing for going on 42 years now and when I was young it was known that 70% of the Students that start training will drop out, why that is its anybodies guess, I heard a number of reasons enough to write a book or a good long article in Flying or any number of publications! This comes up in poor economic times, I have seen it before. The costs have gotten out of hand in learning how to fly its that simple in my opinion and there is little reason to learn how to fly, helicopters well if you are not planning to fly professionally, there is no real reason to bother unless you want bragging rights on Friday night at the local watering holes, fixed wing is not a whole lot better either from a Private Pilots point of view, you really got to be well healed to fund and play in this game- all you have to do is look at the real costs, then its not unreasonable to see why the drop out rate is so high, but that aside is how many of the ones that to get a certificate and a rating either fixed or rotor are still flying or even current five years after the fact? Student starts are at an all time low these days and for the flight instructor its especially tough from that point of view because you are all trying to drink from a very small pool And the pool is not being refilled!
