Oral board interview

Recommended Posts

Chances are, your interview will be very structured. Probably not a whole lot of back and forth. I probably wouldn't worry to much about FARs unless its an EMS operation as well. Work history, "tell us about a difficult co-worker and how you handled that" Don't be a robot, be someone they can picture themselves sitting around the hangar with on a daily basis. If there is any connection to the area or the agency you have. Family lives near by? Anything like that.

Scenario questions about EP's. In police work, we don't fly for money so pretty much any time you error on the side of caution and opt to land you almost cant go wrong. But don't make it sound like an excuse for not knowing what else to do. Any special skills or training you have related to their mission and also, what could you bring to the unit that they don't already have. And word it in a way that doesn't sound like they "need" you.

Its funny that people routinely bash LE pilots, but when the time comes for an opening..... 40 people apply for 1 spot :) If you want to PM me or anything, feel free.

In addition to the above, you may get SMS questions since SMS is now all the rage in LE…. Like:

“How would you define ADM?”

“How would you define CRM?”

“How do you lower your risk during a potential high-risk mission?”

Plus, like every other flying gig, your “attitude” will make or break your interview. That is, how you talk, sit, what you do with your hands, where you look, all of it, will be evaluated…… However, this begs the question; what is your previous experience with board interviews?

Reviving this in case anyone has anything else to add. This is for a sworn spot and I already work for the agency. I am getting ready for an interview and test. Studying SOP, Part 91, weather etc. Anything else I should be studying?
