How long did they make you wait after you had prk to get the waiver? I'm getting prk in a few weeks.

Thanks Lindsey!!

I keep getting the run around from my congressman about the LOR. Its been 7 weeks and still not even a meeting with him yet!!!!

I initiated conversations with my congressman in 2013. I received an LoR from him near the end of 2015 and that was only because I volunteered at a fundraiser he was at and pursued the crap out of it. Expect to be at the bottom of the totem pole and do not ever demand a thing, nor push anything faster than its going if the process has commenced; you're only thankful and blessed if they even consider writing you a letter and even then, it has to go through ethics boards if you do not personally know the congressman outside of a handshake and a hello. Your best bet is to call your closest military bases like I'm doing, schedule interviews, follow up with phone calls, and follow up again if need be. I'm putting together my WOFT packet and got the idea of calling the nearby bases from this forum and so far everyone I've called has been really cool about supporting me for the board. A colonel is running over my packet right now, probably with his car, lol, but after he looks it over it will hopefully go from perusal, to interview, maybe a second interview, to LoR. They're busy people so it's a delicate balance to stay on top of the situation without coming off as pushy or obnoxious. Good luck dude! Check out the forum for everything you want to know. Which board you looking at?

There needs to be more applicants like you on this forum. Way to get after it.

I am hoping to submit a packet for the November boards but I am a little confused. Flight physical is set to take place within the next 2 weeks. Have most everything else completed, just waiting to schedule the Battalion Board interview once I get a stamp of approval on my flight physical.

2 Questions:

1. What is the likelihood of making it on the November Boards or is January a more realistic thought with the slow turnaround from Rucker?

2. Can someone tell me the absolute last day that a civilian can submit their packet to be looked at for the November Boards? I keep getting contrasting answers on this one.

Thanks for your help in advance.

How long did they make you wait after you had prk to get the waiver? I'm getting prk in a few weeks.

The eye clinic didn't give me a waiver until I showed them that I needed it for a 1W flight physical. I got the surgery on September 15th of last year. I was cleared of all profiles 3 months after the surgery when the doc said I was all healed up. I still had to take the SIFT before I was allowed to schedule my phase 1 physical. I didn't get to take the SIFT until the end of February this year. So I didn't get to start my physical until March.

Anyways, the doc made sure that my eyes were healed all the way before he would even think about giving me a waiver. My left eye healed slower and ended up with a slight astigmatism. He ended up giving me the waiver and said I would be fine. Just keep reminding the people at the eye clinic at each post op appointment that you will need a waiver once you are all healed up.

Sweet..yeah I just had my consultation appt, and I'm a candidate for prk or lasik! Thank god, I was freaking out cause I read online that a lot of ppl can't even get one because their eyes are not thick enough or their eyesight is to bad. Appt is the 21st of October. Which means 21st of January before I'd be able to get my 3 month checkup. Slash restart my physical. Looking at the May board now ;/

Going in for the SIFT tomorrow. Shooting for at least a 70 but we shall see. Hopefully all that studying paid off. So far, my least favorite sections would have to be relating to algebra and hidden objects. Good luck to anyone else who might be taking it tomorrow as well!

Didn't USAREC come out with new deadlines yesterday? I believe the new deadline is October 23rd but I may be mistaken on this actual date. I am fairly certain that the dates were amended though.

Why did it take so long to become eligible? I'm getting prk in 3 weeks and my surgeon told me she will have my prk waiver forms ready on my three month checkup..

I'm not sure... According to the website it's still 18 September but maybe they just haven't updated it yet. Either way, I'd def get it in as soon as possible. I submitted mine on the 18th and still haven't gotten word back whether or not it's board ready.

Your good luck paid off! Didn't quite get the 70 I wanted but I guess a 63 is OK for an hour worth of sleep.. :/ Thanks for the encouragement!

Good job!

The e-mail address to check on your package status is on the USAREC website. After submission I waited about two weeks and inquired on my status. I received a response of board ready not even an hour later.

I was told that the eye surgery clinic on Stewart was relatively new and that some of the people there didn't know about the waiver process for flight physicals. Not to mention that it took several months before I was contacted by the clinic and told that I was on the list for eye surgery after I submitted my application.

Ah okay, well glad to see prk waivers aren't a huge hassle. I am getting anxious waiting, but gives me more time to spell check my resume for the 750th time I guess.

I feel your pain on that spell check. I don't even remember how many times I have rewritten my resume and essay. I still feel like they're not perfect.
