As long as your separated from your spouse for a period longer then 30 days you qualify for family separation pay. You should get it for BCT but don't know about WOCS. It will depend on if family are allowed to start transitioning to your duty location. If they are then you will lose family separation pay.

It's part of the enlistment process. All of the SF86 info you put into your packet is screened during your dep in. You will sit down with the security manager at MEPS and they initiate your clearance and do the security interview.

Do you need to get the clearance before going to basic? Both my parents immigrated here and I still have a lot of family overseas, I'm a bit worried that that will delay my ship date.

No. But you do need it before you start WOCS. I know a few people that their clearance was never started and they had to wait no-kidding SEVEN months at HHC to start. Insane.

You will need their naturalization certificates to qualify for a clearance. The way they do it at our MEPS they should initiate your clearance during your enlistment and it should be complete by the time you finish basic. As stated above hiccups happen and things don't always work the way they should.

It would be wise to use your time now to accumulate all of the information you will need for your sf86. Especially since you have foreign relationships. You will need names, contact info, residence info, employment info, etc for any foreign contacts and friends family etc. Also, you will need similar information from places you've lived in the past 7-10 years as well as from your past employers. You would be surprised how much they ask for that are not things that you've likely committed to memory. Also, once you've completed your sf86 retain a copy for your records so it will make it easier to do your TS later if you need one. It might go without saying but retaining just about every document you receive from the Army in some sort of organized fashion goes a long way. The Army has a habit of losing your information and/or redundancy where you will be asked to provide someone with random documents throughout your career.
