Luofynerd
As I sit here in the waiting room listening to the crack of the laser that's about to be above my eyes, I can't help but think that a thread about what to expect and the process of prk and lasik would be extremely helpful to the future warrant officers on this forum. So if you have any tips and insight on the matter, feel free to add a comment. I will be updating my process periodically. As of now waiting to go back day 0! Wish me luck. MckeeC
Had lasik almost 1 year ago and absolutely love it. I still love waking up in the morning and being able to read my clock. Only problem I'm having now (I'm not even sure this has anything to do with lasik) is that when I went to do the aviation physical my eyes failed the "puff" test which tests the pressure that bounces off your eye. I'm actually heading back right now and they are going to look at them once more because I only failed by a small amount. I'm hoping that I'll pass but at this point I'm not thinking much will change. I don't see why it's even a big deal, I can't imagine Army pilots pull many G's I'm helicopters. If I don't pass, I'm hoping that I can get a waiver for it otherwise I have no idea what I'm going to do.

That's a glaucoma test, and to my knowledge has nothing to do with G Forces. http://www.rucker.amedd.army.mil/assets/documents/pdf/army_apls_28may2014.pdf Page 224 of the PDF itself, or the ophthalmology section; page 23. Read it. It has information that will be helpful if you fail the NCT (puff of air), again. You want to understand, and be able to talk intelligently with the optometrist/ophthalmologist if necessary. Luofynerd
It is now a month after my surgery. WOW is all I can say. I had a rough week when it was initially done but I can see an ant fart on a hill a half a mile away. Not really but as of yesterday I'm at 20/13 in my Left eye and 20/10 in my right eye. Combined I can easily read 20/10 line. I never noticed how bad my eyes were until I could read a license plate from a very good distance. I can personally say that if you have a minor setback like me during your packet completion don't get discouraged. I was really bummed but now I'm glad that I was so determined to do this because I actually got some pretty killer eyesight from it. It gave me the dwell time to actually make sure my packet was grammatically correct, and looked flawless although I'm sure it's not one hunnnnnit. I will update you'll once I get stamped (if) on the process of getting the waiver stuff squared away.
