Mature and full of expertise. You justify a lower standard of training based on cost. It's a false argument, of course. Why not make it ten hours for the commercial, given the expense? Why not make it five?

Aren't you one that never paid for your training, but had it handed to you as a officer rising through the ranks?

The standard of training isn't based on expense or hours. The standard is based on proficiency.

It's been a while since I took my checkrides, but I had to do quite a bit more than show a logbook with a minimum number of hours in it.

I knew a student that also didn't grasp that concept either. They were mad when their instructor didn't endorse them for a checkride when they had the minimum amount of hours in their logbook. Even though their abilities clearly weren't at the pts standards.

I agree with what you are saying, why have minimums at all? It's silly to think that some people don't have a natural ability and don't need a ton of hours just to meet some mandated number of hours.

Cheapest way by far to get it is 15 hours in an R22 IFR trainer and 25 in an R22 IFR sim. Flying an airplane is fun and nice but more money.

I can fly dual in a regular R22, but in the IFR trainer the CG's way too far forward. I think I'll just wait to do the instrument when I'm ready to get my ATP. Maybe by then that new R44 Cadet will be available at hopefully a much cheaper price than its 4-seated brother?
