May 2016 Warrant Officer Selection Board

Recommended Posts

Right here mate!

I walked into my recruiters office today to do final prep for my battalion board which was supposed to happen tomorrow. He looked and said "ohhhh yeah...that's been cancelled".

This board is my last step and I'm hoping to be on the July board. Im assuming you're waiting as well?

I'm told by the recruiter it's a "Proponent Waiver" issued by the Aviation Branch of the Army and is the only thing standing between me and July. Though he supposedly can't get ahold of anyone to check if I've been approved, denied, or still in waiting. I've tried calling around but either people aren't willing to help or they don't answer their phone.

Would be nice to find someone on here that also needed the waiver.

No clue man. On a positive note it is May 6th. Officially 10 days until the board starts. Biting my nails hoping for good news. I'm sure with as much as I want this I'll prob get FQ-NS.

I'm waiting for a waiver for the May board still. The answer I received from the WO recruiting team is that the proponent makes a recommendation, then Big Army G-1 approves or denies the waiver request. Army staff releases the status a week or days before the selection board convenes.

I've heard from someone who heard from a seemingly reliable source that proponent reviews waiver requests quarterly. That didn't make much sense to me considering the board schedule and the info from the WO recruiters.

Beyond that tid bit of information I haven't been able to get any real answers from reliable sources. The forums are filled with conjecture and rumors; more questions than answers really.

I'm ASSUMING all the packets that need waivers are stuck in a pile, when the selection board convenes they sort through those first and make recommendations. Put all of those names on a memo and send it up to G1 where it's copy and pasted on another memo with a new office symbol and released. Personally I don't see the staff in G-1 reversing the recommendations from the proponent. Then the approved packets are reviewed with the Mr.' Ms., and SGTs Dogooders', and denied packets disappear into the mythical Army HR abyss.

Remember that entire last paragraph is a complete assumption and I could be totally off base with how the process operates.

Try emailing the recruiting team if you have any questions. I've had nothing but quick responses from them to questions I had and updates I've made.

I think if you submit by the packet deadline and don't hear back anything you're prob good. It takes 4-6 weeks for most criminal type waivers according to the USAREC website. Which means the deadline puts you at about 60 days out, more than enough time for them to accept or deny you.

what were they last board? And wasn't this board canceled???

i'm guessing you aren't civilians

It was 41/46 selected first time go. For active duty. Something in the 96% range lol. And no just the civilian board was cancelled.

The process, I've heard, is enough of a pain in the ass to filter out everyone but the best and most driven candidates.

I'm glad I'm active duty.

I think a big part of that is the recruiters. From what I've seen on here, they tend to be pretty reluctant in helping potential candidates through the process. Any candidate who was not truly committed and driven might easily be deterred by that.

I'm not saying all recruiters are this way. My recruiter has been helpful. Granted, I built most of my packet before I even stepped through the door.

Most recruiters hate being recruiters. They want to take the easy way. The easy way is definitely not WOFT recruits, it's whatever the Army needs that month.

That said, most is not all. I'm glad you have a helpful one.

March civilian board was like 12/19. It was only close to 100% a few times.

But it's not as bad stars as recruiters say. It seems like recruiters are going to tell anyone going in, "unless you have a pilots license, and regularly do volunteer work at the army base, and have an aviation degree, and are personal friends with someone on the board, it's not gonna happen"

I can see how a lot of people get talked out of it. Just gotta be persistent

I walked into the recruiters office in January 2009, asked about WOFT packet and they said the next WOFT selection board was October 2010. Told me the fastest way would be to apply within. I fell for it. Joined up aviation 6+ years later just now got it submitted lol.

I was pretty much the same. February 2009 I asked about aviation and got the typical "they don't look at you unless you enlist." Somehow I got talked into the engineer world haha.

I think I am better for it though. The last seven years have shaped me into who I am now.
