Time in service. You gotta have at least a few warrant officers here and there that will make it past W3 before retiring... Good luck on the next board. Apache5032
Was just thinking about July and how excited I am. That got me reading over everything I have done so far and now and it is so surreal that it is now completely out of my hands. I have done my best and given it all that I can and in order to get a sense of how bad I want it, I thought I'd post one of my drafts of "Why I want to be an Army WOFT Aviator." See you all in July, Godspeed!!! “I shall pass through this world but once. Any good therefore that I can do or any kindness that I can show to any human being, let me do it now. Let me not defer or neglect it, for I shall not pass this way again.” -Stephen Grellet WHY I WANT TO BE AN ARMY WOFT AVIATOR The quote above embodies the spirit of my desire to become an Army Aviator. As I pass through this world, I want to know that I used my talents and gifts to their fullest potential. I strongly believe that we each have a duty to serve not only our nation, but each other as well. I also believe that if I do not utilize my gifts and talents, I deny myself both the opportunity to achieve excellence and the opportunity to contribute to the greater good in this world. To me there is no greater honor than to be called upon by my country. Therefore, it is my duty to excel in life with all my potential, to never accept defeat, and lead those that follow.Compiling my packet has been a humbling experience that has made me realize that this program is not for everyone. I am fortunate enough to be blessed with the physical and mental tools that allow me to participate in such an elite program. As a professional opera singer I have learned that a high level of excellence can only be achieved through constant daily focus and dedication. I have excelled as a musician and am now ready to use that same dedication and commitment to excellence as an Army Aviator. The words of author John Steinbeck compare the helicopter pilot to a musician: “They are truly musician...they play their controls like music.”The Army Aviator is not only a musician in the sky, but also a modern-day warrior. Virtually every civilization has created a class of warriors and as a Judo student, I have learned some of the teachings and philosophies of the Samurai. At the end of each session, I was taught to meditate and reflect on my actions. This mentality gives me the prowess of a warrior. No matter how difficult my opponent may be or how devastating the defeat, I have the courage and tools to aid me in victory. It is in my nature as a person to improve and it is my duty as a warrior to never accept defeat. Being an Army Aviator, I am not only an Army of One, but I will be surrounded by others who live by the same code and who strive for excellence. In a leadership role, I see myself excelling because I believe in the teachings implemented by the U.S. Army’s Soldier’s Creed and Schofield’s Definition of Discipline. I know that following these teachings makes me a better person and creates a template for leadership. Throughout my life, I have learned from many experiences. As a teacher and mentor, many people have come to me with questions that I too have faced. Now that I have learned from experience, I can reply with confidence and guidance and I find great satisfaction in being able to help and lead others. As I look back at my accomplishments, I want to find peace in knowing that my hard work and dedication placed me as one who is “Above the Best” and that I fully applied myself. I am ready to find out what I am truly capable of. It is my duty to become an Army Aviator and a Warrant Officer. I am ready to excel in life and ready for the challenges in becoming a better person and a better leader. Sincerely,Rodrigo Cortes

MichaelRyanSD
Luofy's just a bit saltyYeah, I wan't trying to come off as a jerk or anything, and now that I'm actually in flight school, doesn't make me any more qualified to "judge applicants" but my point with that comment was rather than focusing on what other people are doing to get in, maybe focus on your own variables that didn't get you in. I am also generalizing here, but I've noticed that most of the NCO's that I know personally and even on here who didn't get accepted generally compile their packets about "all the things they've done" and I've noticed some of us lower enlisted who get accepted tend to orient that packet towards "all the things we will do" for the Army. Just my .02 cents

Bennett12
OK so I don't know what's happened as far as all the sh*t talk on these forums but I have no interest in all that. I do have a question, if anyone has some serious insight. I'm the Navy guy that got QS and now I am just curious as to what's next for me? Any idea on how long it normally takes to get an idea of when at what schools I will be required to go to? Just trying to keep the family in the loop about what to expect next. Any and all info is much appreciated.

mdeneso
I do agree with you that most NCOs try and fill their packets with things that they have done and accomplishments. For me the thought process was that I would rather show the board members my potential as a warrant officer and aviator from my actions during my Army career. It kind of follows that old saying actions speak louder than words. I may be wrong in my assumption, but just my opinion.

SBuzzkill
Still not understanding what the whole troll thing means? In Internet slang, a troll (/ˈtroʊl/, /ˈtrɒl/) is a person who sows discord on the Internet by starting arguments or upsetting people, by posting inflammatory, extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community (such as a newsgroup, forum, chat room, or blog) with the deliberate intent of provoking readers We've had a couple different "users" on here who have clearly been someone trolling the forums. With a lack of moderators in this forum to ban them and too many people responding (feeding the troll) they seem to keep coming back. It takes away from the user friendliness of the forum and drives respectable posters away, and while some may think it's fun or funny to engage with these guys in the end it hurts the forum.
Bennett12
All makes sense now. Well that's sad because thus far reading this forum has been pretty useful and I would say attributed to helping me get my Q-S by seeing what other guys have done or hardships they have run into. Anyway, big congrats to everyone who has been selected and look forward to seeing you all at Rucker. To all those who weren't selected I wish the best of luck in the next board and will hopefully see you out there soon!
