MuffinMan
I know there's a ton of active duty people on here but I'm sure there's got to be some civilians like myself who got selected and are headed to BCT prior to WOCS. Figured I would start a post dedicated more towards that since it's just as much a part of the process. I'll be leaving for BCT at Benning in a little over a week followed up by WOCS in August. Anybody else got there BCT orders or just recently finished up BCT?
Luofynerd
I went to basic with a street to seater. His dad was a CW5 on active duty. Dude had the hook-uppppp. Man he got letters from his dad's CW5 buddies and all guy was basically guaranteed a slot lmao.
Wally
Long long time ago my pre-flight room mate (and former fellow bct traineeeee) thought it funny to heckle the even newer preflight class in the building to our rear... "BIG! RED! ONE!" as they executed formation commands. Well, roomie, a pentagon bird colonel's son liked to add "SUCKS!" to the perfectly cadenced BIG! RED! ONE!...SUCKS! HAR HAR DE HAR HAR! Silence The crash of 6 or 7 sets of spit shined tac officer boots charging up the stairwell and down our perfect hall floor, screaming "Who said that? Who the *&%% said that!Roomie, not realizing the joke was over and the hurting Starting for real fessed up...Gone that night. akscott60
Ah, Fort Benning for the summer. Sucks to be you. I went to BCT on 1June. Damn, that was 6 years ago now (almost).
steve0
They let you wear sunblock in basic, right? My poor head has never been shaved before, it's not used to the light! Or will I just look ridiculous rubbing sunblock all over the top of my head?
SBuzzkill
You're going to spend most of your time outside with either a PC or a helmet on. I wouldn't worry about burning your scalp. In fact you're going to come out of there with a hand and face tan, everything else will be covered by your uniform.
153orbust
MuffinMan, not sure where you are from, but if you are not familiar with the deep southeast of this country, you will soon get to meet Mr. Prickly Heat.....He tends to come around that time of year...... Builds character Have fun though, and see ya at Rucker in the fall.

The 107 days with temps over 100 degrees was a little ridiculous though...

MuffinMan
Hopefully SOMEBODY was in a similar situation that I'm going to be in. I know that I'll get BAH while I'm at BCT and WOCS for my house in TX. My question is this, at what point in the process does your BAH move to Rucker. Is it after WOCS or after SERE? or somewhere in between? My recruiters apparently don't know the answer to this because they just keep beating around the bush with it... Luofynerd
You will have to go to finance when you get to Rucker almost guarantee to get it to change, but I've only been at Riley my entire military career.

Dgonz004
Hello, I'm applying as a civilian but have 8 years in the USMC Reserve and am now just in the IRR. Because of my IRR affiliation I'll be processed as a civilian but I wanted to know if I would still have to go through Army BCT? I've read that those who have been through USMC Basic training don't have to but I've not seen a solid answer about coming in from the civilian side. On that same note, if I wouldn't have to go through BCT how would one learn the uniform regulations and other Army specific knowledge? Creep0321
You would not need to go to BCT. You will need to learn the regs, on your own.

How long have you been out of the Marines? The rule is after five years you would have to redo basic. However, i personally know two people who both came from the Marines. One had to go to basic and the other did not. Make sure MEPS doesnt screw you.
stratose
Do they now allow cell phone use at any point in BCT? If so, when and how often?
StockTrader
Do they now allow cell phone use at any point in BCT? If so, when and how often? We had a total of three calls. One on day two or three where we told our families our address. It was the "im doing ok" call. Then another one at week 5 and 7. The last two we were given 20 minutes.
