Astro
So where did all the non military people go? They find another forum or something?
takefootoff
We still here homie. Just haven't been many interesting threads generated lately... Also butters apparently got a job so he's probably busy flying or something.
zippiesdrainage
When I was a instructor with lots of questions and desperately trying to find that next job or learn about the industry, I posted constantly. Now six year later the fun has worn off asking questions so I go over to the just helicopters forum to watch the old guys complain. Less educational but infinity more entertaining. It's cheaper than a movie and I can bring my own popcorn.

The censorship is a bit Orwellian though!
Azhigher
We're all happy in our jobs now, waiting out the oil storm and keeping our fingers crossed we don't get cut.
R22139RJ
I've been guilty of being an ass to Avbug but he is full of nonsense but it seems the forums lost its discussion and development of ideas and turned into too much, I'm right and you're wrong. That gets old real fast.
Scyther
I'd post more often but I haven't even started my flight training yet. Until then I'm the forum stalker.
Anonymous???
Too busy teaching Fixed Wing ground because there are no helicopters in my area...... But it is still 40 times better than anything else not related to aviation.
vertrefadmin
Yeah, I guess jh is, if anything, entertaining, as long as you don't mention Robbies, man do they hate Robbies. The censorship is a bit Orwellian though! The rules on JH are pretty simple to follow but somehow there are always a few that think the rules don't apply to them when they can post anonymously. When we enforce the rules, there is always a new conspiracy theory but the simple fact is, a rule was broken if it was deleted. There are a few topics that are not allowed because they instantly spiral out of control - for example, the robbie/civilian vs military trained topics - once a topic turns into name calling, then it gets deleted. It may seem Orwellian but it has to be this way. I hope this helps explain the moderation. Lyn
AngelFire_91
Agreed! We are still here, and I stick my head in from time to time but... I usually click the "View new content" button and everything is about Warrant Officer this or Selection this or Packet that and when someone does ask a question about training or something usually the first 5 - 10 responses are about joining the military so I just move on with life.

I wonder if that means a certain group of people should be out flying a bit more...
aeroscout
I don't know how to say it tactfully or diplomatically, but let's just say I strongly agree with Astro on his Orwellian comment.I think I could make some constructive comments, but in the final analysis it's Lyn's forum and he can do what he thinks is best.I have furtively lurked for awhile seemingly inactive.Maybe other non military are doing the same as others in this thread have suggested.
Spike
However, when the content of this site begins to resemble that site, what’s the point? Specifically, the inability to stay on topic and hijacked discussions are becoming more prevalent. That, in addition to, making the discussion about the participants rather than the question presented and/or topic at hand…. Waste of terabits….. And time……. Orwellian or not, over there, the insults are better………

Turbolag
I'd post more often but I haven't even started my flight training yet. Until then I'm the forum stalker.Me too. I'm not sure if your supposed to be a pilot to post here or not. So I just watch and daydream. I have a ton of questions I'd like to ask. Like what kind of salary can you expect on average. What types of jobs are there, how stable are the jobs, what's the lifestyle like, should I turn away now before investing in training? There's more but those are the main ones. Nearly Retired
Ah yes, spoken like the forum moderator... Except...umm, you're not. Lighten up, Avi. We real helicopter pilots sometimes like to poke good-natured fun at each other. It's how we roll, fam. It's like, when I poke gentle fun at that atheist woman from Wiccaberg who now preaches... wait, I've got to save this for its own thread - it's too good. But let me warn you, it's a doozy! Goldy
Wow, I guess I haven't missed too much. Been a few months since I checked in. The forum has changed, a lot. Not necessarily bad, just different. As you move thru different parts of your career, you have more or less time to jump on. Have to say though I have met some people from VR over the years that I consider good friends...we just don't use VR anymore to stay in touch. Like someone said, almost all the questions have been asked and answered repeatedly. Not that I'm against new pilots trying to learn as much as they can, but many just need to lurk and get the answers from 10 years of posts. A lot of social media has turned into I'm right/you're wrong AND you are NOT entitled to your own opinion. Guess that's just a reflection of our society as a whole. See ya, Fly safe, Goldy
zippiesdrainage
It's funny, when I was a student and even when I was an instructor, I would come onto these forums ask questions, read answers and search for the answers to my career questions. When you're new to the industry, when you're a student or a new instructor, the industry seems so black and white. You teach, get to 1000 hours, you do tours, and then you move into your chosen field. But once you're in the middle of it, when you start seeing the politics first hand, when you experience competition first hand between rival tour companies or EMS providers, you realize that there's so much more depth to the industry than you ever realized. It's not as simple as "I want to live here, so I'll get this job." What I'm getting at, is that now that I've been through the industry, I don't know if I can give real advice anymore. The more I learn, the more I realize I still have a lot to learn and I never knew as much as I thought I knew.
