Flight physical

My question is how long does it take to get cleared after you do your flight physical? I did my initial physical several months ago and there were some extra test that needed to be done before I could move on. I got all the extra test and went back to the flight surgeon. I guess they neglected to tell me my uncorrected vision wasn't quite good enough but I qualify to try to get a waiver. The second visit was about a month and a half ago. I feel like it's been processing a bit too long. Is there anyone out there that has been in a similar situation and had success?

Yes. You need to call the flight surgeon and ask him to check the website to see if it's been posted. I waited a few weeks because they told me it would be a month toget my waiver approved. They approved and stamped me literally 48 hours after I completed the physical so it just sat in limbo until I inquired about it

I've sent several emails to the flight medical office at ft Leonard wood, where I did the physical, asking about it and she says its been opened twice but is still processing. I called around at ft Rucker to ask about it as well. They said it was still processing as well. It kind of makes me feel like something is not right. Did you get a vision waiver or something else?

This process has been one big , complete "Jerk-around" for past 18 months now.

Just completely outrageous sh*t over and over again...

 

 

But that being said, I am super f*cking excited about the boards coming up in July.

Did you call 334-598-8955? If not, call and ask for Mr. Garcia. He should be able to square it away and let you know whats up.

I tried to contact Mr. Garcia because I had read that he was the one to talk to but the it didn't connect. I called around ft Rucker a bit. The last place I was lead to was some place called AAMA (I didn't catch what the acronym was for). They said it was still processing. I was trying to see if there had been a mistake or something but I didn't really know how to tactfully ask that.

This was my exact experience.

 

Also, I let mine lapse and went to my local NG aviation unit. From the time that the complete physical was submitted to getting stamped was 24 hours. It does not take long, it just if there is a discrepancy, you will never be notified of such.

I can't tell if I'm just getting impatient or if something is actually wrong.

Well start by calling the location that submitted your physical. There was no mechanism to tell me that things were "stuck". Here is an example:

 

I did not hear anything, nor did my recruiter, after about a month. We went to the clinic where I submitted (BJACH in Fort Polk, LA) and was told there was an issue with my blood work. The lady said, "oh Rucker said this number was high". My reply was that it was impossible (my HCT to be exact). She took my file out and looked at the documentation. They entered the wrong number. So she typed in the correct number right there and it was fine. That easy, but I did not know a typo was holding me up, Rucker didn't review it and send a message that there was a typo, no one was going to check for me as I am just an applicant, not a rated aviator that is med down or something.

 

Just clam down and make some phone calls. It is too easy, let your recruiter try and if that does not work, you and your recruiter take a trip to the facility.

 

I also brought starbucks, doughnuts, etc to the ladies processing the paper work and the people in the optometry department when I would show up for my appointments. It sounds weird I know, but it works extremely well.

Thank you for your response. So ft Rucker will know what's holding it up and be able to tell me why? I have to get a vision waiver which nobody seems to know much about. Also, I've been in communication with flight medical where I did the flight physical (ft Leonard Wood). She just looks to see if it's been completed or not. I don't think she would be able to tell me if something is wrong. I'm going to call ft Rucker again and see if I can get a reason why it's being held up or what they are waiting for.

This is a real good post..

Throughout this process, I would sometime think that the Army was TRYING to weed people out by SEEMING to be incompetent.. You really have to just be patient and persistent just like this person was and not give up.

I've definitely felt like this at points too. I'll be calling the flight surgeon again next week and hopefully get some good news so I can continue the process.

Advice needed...Submitted flight physical to havemy hearing waiver denied. FS says that even though I fall in the current APL with binaural at 93% and left ear range 73-80% rucker wont even look at another waiver with the retest results. I don't want to give up hope but is there any other hearing test that the Army provides that I can have done to meet the standards and get the wavier approved? Any suggestions?

That thread seems to have some good info. Lucky64driver said he spent 3 days at Rucker camped out at the audiologist's office and they did some additional testing. Perhaps some of the tests Creep0321 mentions? He apparently got into FS, but not everybody has airfare and time for 3 days at Rucker hoping for a chance. Good luck!
