napoleonpp
It's official that I have been permanently grounded, yeah it sucks. I'm working on trying to find out what MOS I may be able to transfer to, if any. Can I still wear my Aviator Wings and if so how long. I'm sure this is a stupid question and the answer is no. It just sucks to have earned them and lose them after all that work. I know a former enlisted crew chief could wear his wings throughout flight school. Like I said I'm pretty sure of the answer but just want to make sure, also may be in some part denial at the same time.
Lindsey
Napoleon that blows!! I'm so sorry, I can't even imagine. Do you have any civilian backup plans?
napoleonpp
Yeah it does. I have 9 years TIS now so trying to transition to 150U (UAS) or any other possible walking Warrant MOS. Was planning on 11 more years until being a civilian so no backup plans. Lesson for all, always have a backup plan. You never know what may happen.
MichaelRyanSD
Why wouldn't you be able to, I was in an Airborne unit, no longer and never will be on jump status again, doesn't mean I still don't get to wear the wings. stearmann4
Napolean, Once you've earned a qualification, badge, or device, it's yours forever. The privilege of wearing them or claiming the qualification can only be removed or rescinded for disciplinary reasons. Your wings indicate you graduated from IERW, they don't signify current qualification as an aviator, you can wear them for the rest of your career, as well as with civilian attire when you exit or retire from the Army per AR 670-1. If you were FEB'd and had your wings pulled, then you wouldn't able to wear them anymore. MichaelRyan, it doesn't matter if you never serve in an airborne unit again, you can forever wear your jump wings, you just don't wear the appropriate flash behind them signifying active jump status. Sorry to hear this, it's any aviators greatest fear. Where one door closes, another opens. Mike-
MichaelRyanSD
Yeah I knew that, thats why I was saying the OP should be able to wear his wings even if he's no longer on flight status.

zion
Bummer... A CW3 in my unit was accepted into UAS four days after submitting his packet. I don't know his flight physical status, but... four days! They surely are looking.  After talking to 58 pilots that are now Grey Eagle guys, they love it. I think the lack of money in my unit (maybe brigade...), goes to the UAS units.  Best of luck.

Thank you! After they retired the 58 my son switched to Civil Affairs, he still wears his Wings.

wbrady755
I cant speak intelligently on the wings issue, but make sure you get off flight pay before you accrue too much time. When you ETS, they will go through and see how much time you actually flew Vs. how much time you were collecting a flight bonus. They will eventually find out that you were grounded, and take that money back. If you stay in for 20 years, that can be tens of thousands of dollars that you need to pay back at the end. Drew
A buddy of mine was a CW3 before going to PA school. He still wears his wings as a 1LT in the med corps.
