At first glance it sounds crazy but when you consider the hull value it seems to be in the ballpark.  I was quoted $3,000 for a $70,000 Mooney for my first year flying it.  I'm not sure how helicopter rates compare to fixed wing but I assume they're quite a bit more due to the risk associated with landing off airport, etc.
