Backup Plan & School

Recommended Posts

Hello again. I don't know if this is the correct thread to be posting this specific question in but here we go..

So I think having a backup plan for flying might be the way to go but I want to ask what some of you would do or have done differently if you could go back.. Here are some options I've been thinking of.

1) Get A&P first as a backup plan then proceed with flight training etc..

2) Just go for flight training first and if I get hired on after or find a job quickly then just run with it and if I don't get a job then get an A&P. (Sounds bad because if I find work during my A&P training I'll obviously quit in favor of time building.)

3) Find a way to do both at the same time if possible.

4) Forget about backup plans and find whatever work I can between flying if it comes to that.

5) Maybe even get dual-rated..?

I love aviation and I'm quite positive it's what I want to do.

School. I know this is similar to the question I asked in my first post recently but I'm still doing my own research + looking for the opinions of others who've been around the industry.

So... If you could pick one or two schools you think has the highest potential to hire after training or just general success rate in the States then which would it be? I'm willing to live anywhere and have been looking closely at Hillsboro Aero Academy in Oregon.

Thanks to all in advance.

If you start flight training, it should be an all-in affair and once you graduate, you’ll be consumed with finding a job. If hired from the get-go, you’ll be consumed with working/flying and thus, no time to further your education. Whatever back-up path you decide upon, it probably should be completed prior to starting flight training.

As far as the schools go, simply look at the ad’s posted on this site. Most are reputable schools worthy of your patronage. Colorado Heliops and Mona Loa would be high on my list in addition to those you mentioned.

Again, go talk with working pilots face-to-face and get their perspective. Caution with following advice from internet subject matter experts. If you do, it may result in a complete failure and a loss of a ton of dough…

I've read some bad things about Boat Pix on this site and I feel like working as a CFI would be more rewarding as well as vastly superior experience. It is tempting though.
