Advice for a 153A packet

Recommended Posts

I'm interested in becoming a Rotary Wing Aviator and was wondering if I could receive some feedback on my chances of even being looked at by the board. I'm currently a Staff Sergeant with seven years time in service. My questions are in regards to the moral requirements. I received multiple law violations prior to joining the military and needed a moral waiver to join. In 2004 I received a simple assault as a juvenile. I received three underage consumption tickets as a juvenile between 2006 and 2008. In 2008 I received a resisting arrest / obstruction charge when I ran from a high school graduation party. This was the only charge I received as an adult. Since I have been in the Army I have had zero issues. I've been in the top ten percent of all schools I've attended. I understand I will need a moral waiver for each incident and I'm just curious if this is a shot in the dark? Thank you for any advice.

If you drop your packet right now, it is probably unlikely your moral waiver will be approved. They may not even look at your application. Waivers just aren't happening right now. There are too few spots in flight school at Rucker and too many people applying.

It never hurts to apply, and see what happens, but I'm just being straightforward.

Wait and see, would be my recommendation. check this board often and check the USAREC website often. If you start seeing people on here getting waivers approved, or if on the USAREC website they start ADDING 153A boards to the schedule, then you know they need people and its a good time to apply for that waiver. I believe right now you submit the moral waiver WITH the packet, you used to be able to apply for the waiver separately.

I would get your packet done, take the SIFT, get a flight physical, and start talking to people who can write letters. Have it ready to drop when things change, because they will. They always do. The army kicks out more pilots than they train, they realize they are at a heavy shortage, and they bump up their recruiting.
