Can't find a recruiter that does WOFT packets

Recommended Posts

Long time lurker here

It seems based off these forums (and now unfortunately through my own experience) local recruiters are notoriously unable to process WOFT applicants. From what I've read it's "more work for the recruiter and they don't get paid anymore to do it". Her response when I said I was interested in the Warrant Officer Program and that I'd like to put together a packet was..

"Well the WOFT program works like this: you have to be a current helicopter pilot OR you come in a regular job (mos) and we will try to put you in the aviation unit and then you go from there."

Since civilians ARE eligible for the Warrant Officer Program and don't need prior flight or military experience I deciphered her response as "I don't want to help you". I was wondering if anyone knew of any Army recruiters in the northern Virginia area that able and willing to help put together WOFT packets? Thanks!

You can honestly download and put together most of the documents you need for the WOFT from this forum and then just show up at a recruiting station with them all in a binder and ask them to do their small part and make it official.

The Army is upsizing, and I guess that means quantity over quality.

I have the majority of what is needed from my end complete, that is not the problem. She is telling me that it is NOT possible for a civilian without prior flight experience and/or prior enlisted service to apply for the Warrant Officer Program. In other words, she will not help me despite having all my ducks in a row, I need to find someone else.

Some recruiters are just lazy or don't know their job. Try pointing them to the applicable information (it's all on the Army website) or try another recruiter.

Are you talking Guard or regular army?

Mezz,

Your recruiter is one of two things; either grossly misinformed about WOFT application requirements, or she's too lazy to look up the requirements, relying on tribal lore...or she's outright lying to coerce an enlistment. I guess that's three, but you get the idea.

The easiest way to solve her reluctance to help you is to familiarize yourself with all the application information for civilians on the WO recruiting website. Then pleasantly let her know you've looked up the process and you'd like to request an office call with her company commander if she's sticking with her story.

Guaranteed you'll get some traction,

I feel your pain. I'm also a civilian and I went to multiple recruiters and they all wanted me to do 11X and gave me the same speech you're getting. The one recruiter I did find willing to work constantly gives me wrong information and keeps trying to push me in the wrong direction or push to get everything done so quickly. I walked in and took the PICAT the first day and he already wanted me to take the SIFT and APFT the day after.

Find the phone numbers for all the recruiting stations in your area. Call them, one by one, and simply ask if they have done any WOFT packets in the last few months and if they were successful. If no, politely thank them and hang up. Next office. If you run out of numbers expand your search radius. I'm telling you, the extra gas money to go a little further will pay off in months saved by the end of this process.

I'm noticing a trend in recruiting. Unknowing or unwilling... pick your poison.

On the plus side, you are looking at regular army so you have more options as far as recruiters go, and a more consistent application of the process. The Guard has been interesting to deal with to say the least. I found someone who's working with me... but it still has been more trouble than it needs to be.
