September 2017 WOFT Board

Recommended Posts

I have had my packet in for about 5 weeks now. I email the question inbox every Monday, and they get back to me every Wednesday. The status has been "Your packet is with the proponent for review" for the last 4 weeks. Are any of your packets "Board Ready" yet? I am assuming it is because I have a moral waiver submitted with my packet for a speeding ticket over $250 when I was 16. Did anyone have any moral waivers approved yet? Thanks in advance.

How'd the speeding ticket even come up? It hasn't been asked or mentioned as I've been going through the guard process.

I have a speeding ticket over $250 from 2009. My only moving violation ever.

I disclosed the ticket when I joined the Army, so it's on my SF86 in my IPERMS. Had to write the waiver.

Honestly, from what I've seen most people get their waivers accepted around the same time as the board. I'd start getting real buggy around the 4th of September. I'm sure you'll be fine.

So I'll be processing for this board. Missed the one in July by a few days. First time applying as a civilian, non-prior service.

Age: 24

GT: 118

SIFT: 48

APFT: 243

College: 73 credits toward Liberal Studies, prior Law Enforcement Certs

Prior Occupations: Police officer, Police Dispatcher/Jailer, Police Cadet, Salesperson

LORs: 3 Army LTCs, 1 CA State Senator

MEPS Pulhes: all 1's.

Flight Medical: Stamped

Military: None

Flight: None

BN Board: 75/75

I am currently working on getting an updated APFT score and finishing up some more classes to raise my GPA. Also any tips on losing weight? I'm trying to get down to 175lbs. I started this January at 200lb and am now at 180-185lb consistently. Those last few are hard to get lol. Thanks!

Diet is 90% of it. Doesn't mean starve yourself, but fewer calories in than burned = weight loss. Don't drink soda's and juices. Only drink on weekends. Go from beer to liquor. Replace bread with lower carb flax wraps. Don't eat desert. That'll make a big difference right there. All "fad" diets essentially just reduce your caloric intake, thereby making you skinnier. You can do this on your own with portion control.

I'm pretty sure this question has been answered, but I'm having a hard time finding it. I'm going to need lasik/prk, which forms and documents will I need to take to my eye doctor to fill out in order to receive a waiver?

Too easy.

https://www.tamc.amedd.army.mil/offices/Ophthalmology/docs/Army%20Aviation%20Refractive%20Surgery%20Policy.pdf

Page 16 of this PDF is what you will need to print out, usually it comes with your flight physical packet. This whole PDF explains all about eye deficiencies. If you have any issues understanding any of it PM me and I should be able to help you out. I had PRK in 2015 and have done two flight physicals since then.

First time applying as civilian. VR has been a tremendous help for me.

Age- 25

APFT- In The Process

College- 18 credits

Flight- 65 hours towards PPL

Medical- Stamped/ Approved ADHD Waiver.... took 6 months

I don't know what my chances are but I would appreciate any input on how I could better my packet. Once again this forum has been a wealth of information. Thank you all.

I'd say your chances are pretty good, given the fact that civilian selection rate is nearly always 100%

Had to submit a correction and did not receive the automated correction was received email. I am extremely worried that my packet wont make this board. Anyone else have this issue?

if you can prove time stamped email, shouldn't be an issue. I sent corrections (OPAT) on the 13th or 12th

I probably wouldn't leave that alone, follow up with a warrant recruiter or send it again. Double check you sent it to the right address etc.

AD Marine here, first submission (and only due to my time remaining on contract)

what do yall think? I am confident in my experience helping me out at least a little.

- Age: 26
- GT: 115
- SIFT: 57
- APFT: 244 (I score Much higher on our PT test, I was definitely not used to situps/pushups)
- Military: SGT-8 years Active Duty Marine UH-1Y Crew Chief / Weapons and Tactics Instructor / Night Systems Instructor / Aerial Gunnery Instructor / 2 Combat Deployments / 4 Air Medals / Multiple Certificates of Commendation / Meritorious Masts / Letters of Appreciation.
- Civilian Education: High school
- Flight: 1600 Hours in the mighty Huey as a Crew Chief, 270 of them Combat hours.
- Physical: No issues Stamped
- LORS: Army CW4 OH-58 Standardization IP / Major UH-1Y Pilot WTI / Captain UH-1Y Pilot

Packet is currently listed as board ready

I have since submission ran another Marine PFT and it has a slightly higher score than the Docs included in my packet. Is this worth sending in an update considering it's our scores and not the Army test?

I feel you on the PT, I have no baseline my pt test is so random. One day I get max push-up sit-up and run a 14 the next week I get 60 in each event lmao. I don't know if the marine pft would even be considered. I would ask the recruiting team.

I dont think it does really, not going to lie when I first read what I would have to do for the Army PT test I was like "psh" I do 3 miles and 23 pull-ups" then I did one and failed the sit-ups my first try.

Lmao I would love for my pt test to be three miles and 23 pull-ups. Good to see more active duty members posting for this board now. Hard to get a guesstimate to where you stand without AD stats ;)

Also just being real, coming from Aviation as an NCO who grades quite a few WO pt tests, 244 is fine lol. Most of those dudes are happy with do the bare minimum.

Drives me nuts though, I prefer to be in the 270 plus area. Also, it looks weak to me for the board. Its the only part of my packet I am not satisfied with.

well if it makes you feel any better I got a 246. They sent me an email that my APFT was going to be out of date by the board so I took one after being on night shift (not really doing any pt, my own fault)Went down ten points. I mean I'm not happy about it but it's also 66 points above the army standard and more than 80 in each event.

Another Marine here butt-hurt about my APFT score. I ran a 243 the other day - I'm going to try to run another one in 2 weeks and hope I do a bit better. I would have scored better on a USMC PFT, my last 2 a couple years back were in the 270s. I don't remember running under a 250 ever in my 6 years. I can easily do 25 pull-ups now and 100+ "crunches." On the APFT I knocked out the 77 pushups in 90 seconds. That said, 62 sit-ups was all I was able to eek out, and I was feeling a bit under the weather and wasn't breaking any land speed records on the run. Going to be doing an intensive sit-up program the next 2 weeks and run it again in the AM when it's cool rather than at 2 in the afternoon in 90 degrees. I'm going Guard so I don't know how active duty averages square up. A lot of my guard friends seem to say their attitude is "pass the APFT" is good enough. Not really my mentality going in to this.

Mike I feel ya, I maxed the push-ups no problem and run was decent. But those sit-ups. Unfortunately I won't have time to run another one for score before the board and get it routed and signed by my co.
