Protip for the recent selectees that I just found out today. I met with the CW5 who had given me a LOR, and he had also set up some time for me on the Flight Simulator. Upon arriving I started talking to the civilian who works for and help run the simulators and he kept telling me I should have gone out there a month ago and he would have worked with me to help prepare me for flight school. He said he generally likes to get about 15-20 hours in before sending us to flight school to help us get a leg up. Helps us focus on the instructor pilot when he goes through a quick rundown of everything. Also, so we can at least hover starting out. So if you are anywhere near a base with a CAB try to get in early for a go and see if anyone there would be willing to do that for you! Wish I had known about it earlier. (I ship out Monday for basic.) Any of the CABs will also have the simulators. The gentleman I worked with was very knowledgeable and a great instructor.

 

Also, congrats to those selected! Its been a long road to get here! (Now all thats left is the wait for basic/WOCS).

 

Sweet! I got some AH-64E sim late last year. Was able to squeak out a few hours in my off-time.

Gonna have to utilize those simulators during our month stay at Rucker before WOCS.

 

 

Only if you can squeeze that in between overnight & weekend Fundets.

Specifically around page 160; I believe they're talking about flight school seats being raised to nearly 1200 in fy17 1300 in fy18. But I could be completely wrong and just a moron. Lmao

I believe that is referring to hours not seats..no way in Alabama hell rucker is zipping 1200 pilots through IERW yearly. I doubt numbers for flight training seats will be available. I think those areas start to fall under OPSEC when they get too detailed.

Idk, I feel 1200 hours is very low to be divided up between aviators. I have 70 hours myself and Im still scared shitless climbing into an aircraft.

Right, I think 1200 hours divided between 200 aviators doesn't make sense at all. That isn't quite what I meant by hours. It is a measure of "student trainee/work years" what ever the heck that means. I assume these data snippets are obscure and hard to understand by intelligent design.

 

What is more important is the summary of what this influx of money means for the Army as quoted a few pages prior "The Army budget request of $1,124.1 million reflects a program increase of $203 Million. This increase reflects the transfer of Light Utility Helicopter maintenance and increased flight hours to produce more Army pilots".

 

These post are getting wildly off of thread topic, I apologize for that.

Congratulations to our civilians here, I am still going through the waiver process for a concussion and a back injury I had years ago. Just finished my last medical appointment. It's a waiting game meow for Fort Rucker to approve my waivers however, I still run a possibility of being DQed.(I hit my head snowboarding didn't pass out and I have a very mild bulging disk on my lower back)

 

Looks like I will be applying as a civilian/guard, my DOS is Jan 2018. Is there any civilians here who I can talk to about their process submitting there package and preparing it.

im one of the civvies that was selected. Had a meeting w/ my recruiter today and he said there were 12 total applicants, and all were selected, as previously stated.

cool thanks, so relatively low applications for this month as far as civilians go. Active duty is never that fortunate lol.

It's not hours. It's students. Rough math, 26 classes per year X 40 students per class (currently) equals 1,040. Since rucker is currently REDUCING the number of hours flown while in flight school, specifically in the advanced airframes, the intent is to get more students through quicker. With the additional hours being utilized at the units. Even our ATM just changed to reflect this, previous 1000 level individual tasks, that got cut from rucker, are now 2000 level tasks.

Yeah that's how I took it as well. Glad someone else shares my interpretation. Either way that's promising news for hopeful applicants.

Without a doubt, it's certainly a good time to be applying. Especially if you are close to or over 8 years of AFS.... since that may be the new limit soon.

Each section is 18-22 students on average. Each class has two section.

Dude lol. Calm down, you're a little out of your league. Your perceptions of what is possible are based on exactly zero experience with Army Aviation. Anything is possible, and that can be both good and bad.
